06 December 2010 19:40 Post ID: #78394
So chris Hughton is sacked. Many on here will recall me saying i thought he would be gone by christmas and some will think i'm glad at todays news.

Last night whilst travelling on the coldest train to loughborough i endured hundreds of juvenile students also heading my way. I accept not all students are the same but the day i support these nonce speaking cunts in their efforts to cull their future fees is the day i become one. I at least had my phone and talkofthetyne to keep me company. sadly my signal was poor so i spent most of it waiting for pages to load.

I read croms thread about Chris Hughton with interest. I saw he suggested the manager was running out of time and noticed he still had a lot of support on here. Whilst listening to "and i was like" or "oh i know" comments from around me i looked out of the window at my reflection and wondered where i stood.

All last season i was seeing a different team than what most on here or my work mates were seeing. i often suggested we were very lucky to win games in the first half of the season and even said we were often out played. I know some of the older supporters on here, like me were critical of performances as well. I got called negative and even one poster suggested i support someone else.

I can handle peoples retorts quite well as its a fantastic forum with a great mix of people, i can handle people making threads about me and naming me in the title like last weekend, its only a forum and i've met nearly a dozen of fans from different talkofthetynes so i can't complain when someone calls me a cunt or posts my name on here to get a rise. i actually like being able to rant about football and newcastle united because i feel strongly and enjoy doing so. I do it in real life a lot too.

Last night i wrote a large message for croms thread about hughton.having waffled and ranted i pressed submit only for my phone to lose signal and lose my message. fuck me its takes me ages to write on a touch screen i didn't bother re-doing it and as I was drinking over priced stella on the train i forgot most of what i had wrote.

My lost post was that i wanted hughton to stay because while ashley is still here i feel its a waste of time changing managers. Hughton may well have been an ashley man, he may have been very poor tactically in my view but it puts us back getting rid. we need rid of the owner and hughton should have gone the same day the club was sold.

Today we are managerless again. beardsley is in control and ashley is still here. forgetting club statements as we know they lie to us, forgetting rumours or inside sources and forget bookies favourites because we know we are fucked because no manager worth his salt will want to be here. for the first time in my lifetime i do not think we will make a worthy appointment.

My view now is we need a shit manager, a manager on par with joe kinnear, graeme souness or sam allerdyce. shocking i know but fans need to get a grip of the club again and only by skydiving again will we be rid of the owner. people who suggested ashley was doing a good job will need to stop forgetting what he has done and the fact he hates you as much as some of us hate him.

I'm looking forward to the liverpool game, not the train ride back up
but at least we'll go back to being anti ashley again as that should have never stopped because of promotion.

so why my thread title? i'm fed up and have been a long time. When i was a kid i'd hear older fans saying they were disgruntled and giving it up but i couldn't understand that. for 31 years i've been going and have missed very few. i missed more of keegans first spell games than i did in the 80's. I wouldn't care to say how many it totals but i know i've been taking my daughter since she was 6 and she has over 250 home and away games and telling her i'm not going anymore is going to be tough but not as tough as finding something else to do while we are playing.

Its not really about ashley, or the fans who want hughton to wave, its not about rising prices or the fact fifa didn't give us the world cup. its fuck all to do with anything other than i smell the death of the english game.

we are not the best league in the world, we do not have the best players either. we have a league than is run by an even more crooked bunch of men than fifa. Its all about money and i'm not rich enough to change what i don't like.

We ask championship teams to play in a knock out competition that renders the whole season of 46 games a waste of time. play offs are about money and not about excitement for fans. we have talk of a 39th game which will come.

Yet my biggest grind is the players. I used to arrive 90 mins before kick off and join in the singing, we used to love our players no matter how shit they were cause they wore the toon strip. we'd join in the team announcements prior to kick off and cheers them all only toning it down half way through the 3 subs..

Now we have no affinity with the players anymore. I watch players cheat. yeah cheat. they cheat each other, the other teams players and their own team mates, they cheat the game rules and cheat the managers out of jobs. they cheat the end of season table and more importantly they cheat us, the fans.

But we don't count. we accept players play acting, pretending to be injured because it gets them fouls, they pretend to get injured to get taken off too. They dive, hold their faces and roll around like shit extras in a war film.

This is where fifa, uefa, fa and the fl are accountable and they let it happen. the managers allow it too, as do the press. we hear ex footballers chat about it but rarely condemn it and commentators can be heard to laugh when it happens.

Yet we are conned, the fans have no say and i dare you to find one who likes it. we have no say about games being moved at short notice. last season i bought tickets and hotels for two games away which were then made useless as the games were moved 4 weeks before hand. we all want goal line technology to help the game and many would love tv evidence to ban the cheats but we don't get it. we fall into the trap of blaming someone else, often the ref and its rarely ever his fault its the people in the game.

I've paid over 300 quid for this game for tickets as i've family and friends coming and i don't love the beautiful game anymore.

Players are allowed to earn money that turns them against the fans, we are scum to them. they live a pop star life style and are often in the news for wrong reasons. driving bans, fights with fans, late night parties, rape allegations the list goes on..

the game is dying and it needs to be changed before we have loads of over sized empty stadiums around the country. i don't want to watch players like nolan not be interested in giving his all. i know i would and can't understand why players today can rarely be bothered.

I think today has simply helped with my decision.

fuck it, i'm going to get pissed...

Agree with you about the state of the game, money, cheats, footballers, good guys like Hughton come second, the football bubble has been blown into for far too long, and it is gonna burst sooner than we think

TC.. One of the best posts of all time (in my opinion), you've captured everything to a tee and at the same time showed that its your opinion and one of the reasons why certain posters get respect, They dont change their mind with the weather. You have stuck to your views through certain abuse and have been proved right.

I hold my hands up to being carried along on the optimistic train that is the Ashley 125, not knowing if its gonna stop at the right stations or even travel at all.
Ive sometimes forgotten the anger that he's caused me over these 2 or 3 years, maybe thats down to maturing years or having bigger things to worry me in life but what wont change is the love i have for the toon.
99% of us on here support the toon, we may not support each other but when the shit hits the fan, we're here for each other and thats something to be proud of.

Great post TC and one that mirrors alot of people's feelings about the game, I've been threatening to pack it in for years now, then when you see games like the mackems and villa when you're caught up in the passion of 90 mins nothing else matters. it's why you keeping coming back year after year. The people that run football know this and use this natural instinct most of us have had since we were kids to their own advantage, no more so than the dispicable Ashley. Supporting such a great club has given me great memories over the years despite being trophy less. I and I'm sure many others have never expected any kind of future with Ashley at the helm. The man is simply a fucking idiot.

whats it going to change though?
still going to have the fat twat there waiting to screw us over.
today is unforgivable,if anyone deserved a dignified exit it was hughton.
and if it is jol why not move hughton sideways to assistant?
one fuck up too far for my liking.

Cracking post tc. I think it covers pretty much everything a lot of us have felt to varying degrees the last few years. There are so many people so disillusioned, yet as a team we've seen far worse football and been in far worse positions.

The entire soul of football has been slowly but surely drained, so that we're left watching the rotting corpse week in week out, only held up by Sky and covered with flashing neon lights that tells us it's the best league in the world.

Again, a brilliant read. It's totally from the heart - something which has been missing from football for years.

None of us have ever liked him Bob. We've just tolerated him because we want to see our team. We're obviously mugs though, because just as you think he may have the sense to do things properly for a while in order to make the club sellable, he does this.

I am seriously thinking about not going back, and it's the first time I've felt it this strongly.

Great post corner. I think the biggest change in modern football is the players attitudes. Lots of the players used to be local and gave their all for the club, but now you have players going to teams they may never have even heard of. If it was any of us playing we'd give it our all, because we love our club, but some players just don't have a reason to care, because after all, they're going to get their pay checks at the end of the week regardless. It's not like the real world we're you don't get paid for doing a bad job. (This is football in general here, not just the toon)

A moving post. In true Corner style. *winks*

But your last game? Nah. I dont think so.

If someone was to cut you in half they'd find black and white stripes running right the way through you - I know, I know, I've said that to you before, in another place and another time, but it still holds true and it's what sets Geordies apart from so many other fans.

You're hurting about the state of the club, and the state of football and the state of all sorts of things which touch your heart. But you'll pick yourself up from this, just as you have from all the other shite that goes along with being NUFC. It's what you do. And all this crap that Fat Man Ashley throws at you, and other die hard Mags, cant (in the long term) break your spirit and push you away from YOUR club.
I dont know what will change to make things better, but something will. I have a feeling that Fat Man has other things up his sleeve which will come to light over the coming days or weeks or months, and the madhouse which is Newcastle United Football Club will bump along on it's rocky and heartwrenching (but never boring) road. And you'll be there, in the corner, smiling and shouting and supporting your club.
Maybe you'll take a break for a while. But I think, and hope, that that break won't be too long, and that that bastard, and the all pervasive cynicism which is rife in todays game, hasn't permanently damaged the heart of the club; the supporters.

I think I could catch tc up for a pint and listen to him admit he can't give up his addiction. The Arms sounds like a good bet because the lads from work drink in there pre-match.

But s-p-b has never really taken the bait. I'm not sure he wants to meet with TOTTers in person. I think it's because he's bald.
