Does anyone else feel that they are missing something whilst boycotting Ashley?

When I lived in London I was suddenly frozen out when KK came back and gave us the Entertainers' era. I couldn't afford a season ticket and only managed either cup or away games. I adopted orient as my 2nd club.

Whilst boycotting, I feel the need to go and be grumpy on the terraces somewhere.

An acquaintance is known for travelling the country to watch matches for which he is always neutral.

An occasional golfing partner is a director at Lincoln City. They made money in the FA Cup last year means they are investing sensibly and have a good future, supporting their management team.

My most local side is York City but every time I see the ground name, feel like I should take a break from football.

There is another set of Magpies in relatively easy reach, managed by Kevin Nolan and with a striker who has a lot of 2nd bests - 2nd top UEFA scorer with NUFC, 2nd top League Cup scorer for NUFC, 2nd top scorer against the mackems for NUFC.

For me, it is down to Lincoln City or Notts County but then it feels like a betrayal of family roots.

Does anyone else have the same dilemma about lending support to another team, after all, with Ashley's investment in the club, NUFC might be taking on the other Mags or the Imps in a couple of seasons.

Have found myself doing England games.Mostly away games.Off to Holland next month.I have met some cracking supporters from all over.Football is shite but thats not the reason I go.Its the trips away and the craic.Been invited to go to many of their home games i.e Doncaster,Fulham,Hartlepool,Scunthorpe,Huddersfield even Boro and the Mackems which will never happen. Not come across any from the so called big clubs though.
Ashley has killed it for me.I think if or when he leaves we will have those that have kept going telling us they did everything to get rid.
If I go back after Ashley it will be the odd game with the bairn.Hes been to a couple of England home games and cant wait to finally go to St James'.

If anything, my support for England has gone backwards from barely bothered aside from big tournaments to non-existent now as the players that wear the shirt pretty much fit the state the country is in.

As for any other team aside whatever version of NUFC we are up to now, I look out for the local results but I wouldn't watch any of them.

An interesting thread.

I fear this is a bridge I will have to cross when my lad grows up a bit (he's 3 next week) and if and when he shows an interest in football. Living away from Newcastle in some ways will make it easier in that I won't be under pressure like some on here to take him to St James'. But the flip side is that I won't be going through old programmes with him; recounting tales and famous games with him. Thanks Mike you cockney bastard for robbing me of passing my stories on to my son and watching him watch NUFC and be thrilled by it like I was when I started. Thank you very much.

I was so hoping for this takeover but now know the reality - no1 is going to pay what he supposedly wants and even if they did he'd just piss them about like he's done Staveley cos the bottom line is he doesn't want to sell. Take the parachute payment; keep 2/3 of it; give the club a 1/3 of it and call it a "loan" to saddle it on the club and get back IF sold; sell a couple of players; spend enough to get promoted; continue milking and diverting all potential revenue streams from commercial opportunities; repeat ad infinitum; make millions. Meanwhile never higher than 6th bottom; continual relegation fight or relegation itself followed by promotion and so on and so on. Absolutely pointless club existing purely for the greed of one fat bastard. No sporting ambition whatsoever. What's the point? In this day and age - how would I "sell" that to my lad when he he was born here and lives 150 miles away?

The fact is I can't. And I won't try. I'm going to have to lump it watching a team I couldn't care less about (or, indeed, hate) if the young pup wants to go.

I've been to one professional football match in 5 years (Burnley v sunlun in the hope the latter were thrashed. It was 0-0). Great eh? Going to a game to see a team you hate and hopefully see them lose. Has it come to this??

I hope I can lend a guiding steer to the bairn in his choice of club. Pray to God it's not the Mancs. Either of them. Or the scousers. Either of them. Or the Nob Enders. Or Bleakburn. Or ... fuck.

My head tells me there is no takeover, there never was any takeover and there never will be as long as Ashley can get away with what he has gotten away with but I still wouldn't bet on that scenario as deluded as that sounds.

I was 12/13 when supporting NUFC really took off for me with the Keegan promotion season and my Son is that age now. A sale needs to get it's arse in gear if his Barcelona posters and strips need mentally replacing with pride in his local club. An absolute hidden shambles from sausage fingers to lose a generation.

I followed South Shields for a while but it's just not the same.

There's only one club for me but I'm lucky in a way having seen the Keegan days in the 80' s and 90's and SBR in the 00's. Gods knows what the youngins today have to look forward too.

With no visit to Wembley for 18 years and no prospect of another in the next 18 years, I'd opt for the Imps. They'll be taking over 30k there on 8th April.

Sad thing that is plain to see on this thread is that the fat cunt is killing a generation of Newcastle fans.He has sickened us and our bairns are missing out now.How long will it go on for?

It has to be the Mighty Cobblers - and, believe me - They are! MK Dons (good stadium) and also Walsall. That's because local mates follow these clubs so I have an interest for the sake of conversation. Of course, it's nowhere near the same. It's more to do with savage amusement really.

FC has blighted best part of a quarter of my football-supporting life. In all honesty, I think I've descended into blind hatred for him. Sad that.

I occasionally go and watch Crawley Town small crowds but they have a hardcore very loyal passionate fan base, good to see. Sad though seeing the likes of Coventry City in that league, how the mighty have fallen. I fear my lot could end up like that.

Agree with all of that - cobblers are my nearest team and the name fits, have popped over a couple of times but it is pretty dreadful. MK really is a smart stadium fit for a higher level

I have followed Finn Harps since i gave up my season ticket in 2009 the standard of football is at times poor but the atmosphere is usually good and the players are playing for the love of the game. My season ticket for Harps is 130 per season for 20 games and you can go to the pub at half time and your pint is ready.

I don't think any other club would match the same atmosphere of St James under Keegan and SBR but it would take a trillionnaire to reach those dizzy heights again. Didn't win fuck all but gave it a hell of a go with some cracking games and results.

The whole football dynamic has changed and not for the better at the higher levels. Money has came in and spoilt it! There aren't many natural footballers around now, they are athletes first and footballers second.

Since I've been going to Whitley Bay its been pretty much mixed in terms of results and performances BUT even after playing shite, you can see each and every player has put in 100% effort. So if its the football experience you want at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon then go to the non league games.

Here’s hoping everyone is watching their second team today. Although I suspect that as per usual, after a few weeks their storm in their teacups has died down a bit and all is forgotten. Another full house.

Ashley 174993780 - 0 Spineless Wankers.

I'm surprised he isn't going today, it is against Man Utd after all.

He managed to get "a freebie" against Benfica in a European Quarter Final. Never seems to come across "a freebie" against your Burton's or Rotherham's though.

Funny, that.
