Just read this from the mag, hope there has been some sort of dialogue as the team needs assistance.

However, the update has come from Damian Spellman, the main man at Press Association Sport, when it comes to covering Newcastle United

PA Sport don’t just invent stories (unlike some…) and so whilst they don’t reveal their source for the story, they certainly have spoken to somebody who has briefed them as to this (allegedly) being the situation now.

However, whilst I have no doubt that that it is a genuine story, the devil may be in the detail.

Damian Spellman saying ‘However, it is understood that Benitez and managing director Lee Charnley will have limited funds with which to work.’

Funds are always limited. There should be £20-30m in the kitty with some other players to trade, plus a loan or two.

20-30?! Is that for the left back. There’s hundreds of millions from tv Money alone that has gone unspent over the years.

Every year we keep saying the tv money next year is the big one... aye, it, it just keeps getting bigger year in year out. Where has it gone?

Where has it gone?

A big chunk has gone in the wrong directions. Ashley appointed McLaren and gave him a decent budget. In one way or another. It has come of the value of playing stock combined with relegation. Just as he will always be behind on the roulette table, he will always be behind where he should be if he treated his football business properly.

On the plus side, if he ever does sell, any new owner shouldn't be constrained by Financial Fair Play. On the downside, any new owner will have to end up putting cash in the pocket of someone who many will think from his other business practices is a despicable character. it's a bit like buying a 2nd hand Ferrari off the Mafia hitman who killed your father.

Rexn, your analogies never fail to inspire me. I must try and use that comparison in conversation at the club on Friday night.

Aye but in Ashley's case, the 'second hand ferrari' has a broken engine, flaky paint work and the exhaust has fallen off.

That's true but don't forget he got all that money back plus interest when he sold off certain players after we got relegated.

True and I'm not defending Ashley but players had to be sold at a profit to meet FFP. The wage bill was probably even higher than operating revenues and some of the player sales are being repaid in instalments.

As far as I know the wage bill was always reasonable compared to turnover. Regarding FFP are we sure it still applies to football clubs? Maybe only those who don't want to spend any money.

Yes it was when in the Premier League. That changed when we were relegated.

It's the other aspects of FFP that are important too. By showing a paper profit on Sissoko of £29m, then the club's overall profit/loss is within stipulations.

Yes FFP still applies. HOwever, some "sponsorship" deals are over the top at some clubs at the top of the table, tens of millions coming in advertising where we get £0 from Ashley's retail enterprise.

Fair point Rex but lets not forget we have been in the premier league for 80% of Ashley's reign, and with parachute payment for the other 20%. Forgive me if I don't feel too sorry for him.
