There is a lot of press speculation now about the sale of Shelvey, Mbemba and Mitro. I guess none of them are in Rafa's best 11 right now, maybe Shelvey but he has dropped him quite often as I recall, even in the championship last year.

OK its only speculation but its surely getting to the stage of no smoke without fire. We seem to be able to sell players without difficulty, its just buying them which takes weeks (months).

It worries me with Ashley's track record that the club will allow the sales to go through and then somehow just not quite manage to get player purchases "over the line" (hate that) before the deadline. Then we would bank the cash raised for the summer and effectively therefore get through two windows without spending anything.

To be frank I would also worry about Rafa's ability to pick players to sign as replacements. He hasn't covered himself in glory in this respect up to now for me.

I guess I worry too much ;-) maybe everything will turn out just fine.

It might sound silly but those 3 don't seem to reflect Rafa's discipline.

Some of the press seem to have picked up on Rafa being told to sell but it's an easy story. We have a full squad of 25 named.

As it stands, even including Merino, Ashley has got through 3 windows with a net spend of -£15m, albeit some of that is in instalments from Sissoko.

Part of me thinks, if there is no sale, Ashley will rely on loan players wanting to get on the stage for the World Cup - Ings, Sturridge, Giroud etc. There should be enough cash in the kitty to add £20-30m to player sales now. Otherwise, with other players and instalments there could be over £100m available.

The thing that nags me is Ashley's power thing. He might be getting a kick out of pissing off (by some criteria) one of the most able managers in the world. If Rafa does walk after being let down in the summer, he could easily rub it in by giving the new manager the £100m kitty - Harry Redknapp perhaps?

No. You're bang on there, CTM. All you're doing is recognising exactly what has happened during every window under Ashley's tenure. I actually got sucked in about this takeover because people turned up and discussions really took place. Hope, miserably, reared its ugly head.

But, sadly, I think he's shafted us again, the dirty bastard.

Back to hoping for his fatal heart attack again...

If there aren't any signings we may find ourselves in the position of Rafa not giving a shit as to whether we stay up or get relegated.

Did I imagine reading stuff on here that claimed Rafa was privy to a potential takeover which explained why he had not walked despite Ashley taking the absolute piss out of him and the club ?

I see the mirror (Ashley) is trying to stitch rafa up over Shelvey.

Making out he's refusing to sell for 20 million, knowing full well our funds have to be generated by sales.

Not very subtle are they....

I reckon Rafa believes he is an important cog in it happening and has big plans if it does. Im just in the non-believing camp who is trying not to be drawn in.

Going back to the subject though, Rafa has done his ground work again on signings and there's no-one in office to say what's in the purse and there's no-one there to sign the cheques but if one decent bid comes in for one of wors then you can bet a billion pound to a penny that it'll be discussed sharpish.

Not really, I just think he's taken in with his vision of how we could potentially be. The takeover talk seemed to end his leaving a few months back and it'll be holding him here.

Toony i'm beginning to think that rafa could take a massive dump on your head and your only reaction would be to ask for paella seasoning.

There is zero evidence he was leaving mate,as CT pointed out if he doesn't walk in the event there is no takeover, will you wonder why he is being paid four million pounds per year by Ashley ?

To be fair if anyone was paying me four million pounds a year to work at a club I don't support I wouldn't rock the boat too much either! Although that would be harder to do if it was a club you really cared about.

But all that aside lets be honest none of us know what is going on behind the scenes with Fatty, Rafa, the lovely Amanda, or their entourages. We are just forming opinions based on snippets of gossip and innuendo which may or may not include some truth.

One thing we have learned about Rafa is that he is no KK. To be fair KK walked the first time he got shat on and made sure it was the only time. Fair play to him. Rafa is either more tolerant, or perhaps more in tune with the bigger picture. Time will tell.

If I were RB I'd give Charmless a list of about 10 really, REALLY, expensive players saying "I want those please".
When Charmless says "we can't afford any of those"
My reply "well who the f*** can we afford".
Until I got the answer no more requests.
The papers would find out about it though, from an un-named source.

Can't disagree with some of your writings CTM but when you're a multi millionaire, living away from home, being lied too (we believe) by your employer, why on earth would you stay in the job?
He wouldn't be out of work for 3 months, he might not get the salary he's on here but it would be close with the possibility that the club owner/s aren't lying, cheating, devious, shit-holes. I'd keep my dignity and walk unless I knew something was defo going to happen v soon.

This is my reasoning also,at this time nothing else makes sense.
I don't believe rafa walks on water but nothing in his past points to him selling his soul as well as betraying football fans for someone like Ashley.

Allegedly, a big contributory reason for Rafa not walking is the nature of the contract and having to pay back £5m. Even if he is on £4m a year, that is around £2m after tax. He would need to be here for 2 and a half years before he broke even.

Rafa doesn't walk mid season. If he's going to resign it'll be in the summer. Though why would he ? Huge wages, job within a 4-5 hr drive of home, and there's no expectation and no pressure. How many times has he just got on with it despite Ashley time and again not backing him. You can't keep deflecting as a manager or make empty threats (not that Benitez has once threatened to resign), sooner or later it's fuck or get fucked.

Good point, Birdys. Ashley has form on that front with KK. We don't know what has only been said and what has been put in writing. Ashley has also won a case where there wasn't any written evidence. In constructive dismissal, the burden of proof is on the employee. Ashley will also have learned a bit from the KK case.

As for contracts, yes it could be argued that Rafa wasn't too clever. On the other hand, we don't know what he negotiated in the event of his being dismissed. It seems to be accepted that Pardew would have picked up about £200k if he was sacked. You would imagine Rafa would be on more than that if he got the boot.

Ashley spent a paltry 4 million to give the rafa lovers a god as well as buying their obedience, yet ironically most of them insist HE is the stupid one.

There may be no evidence that he was leaving but there is also none to say that he hasn't fallen for having a project here on the back of a new owner and stayed for that potential reason. Whether it's true that Ashley is selling or not is the massively debatable issue. We dont believe it but Rafa may have his reasons to.

You also can't discount that Staveley may have approached Rafa with a takeover in mind, prior to his arrival. We dont know yet but we will if Ashley goes.

As for cash, he's not short of it and could have had his pick of clubs around the world with China providing a short term move that would have blown his wedge out of the water but overall I dont share your belief that Rafa is in on any charade as he's too professional and his body language of the whole thing speaks volumes.

A lot of may's there toony.

I think it's much more simple,if he's still here with Ashley after it's being made clear the club is not going to be sold that would put him in the Pardew category.

Would you agree ?

He's not short of cash which rules out any excuses for him not walking away even if his contract disadvantages him.

I don't see why he would go to China when he can't even move to Newcastle though.

As stated quite a few times,i'm not sure if rafa is on a charade.

I am amazed however at how easy it was for Ashley to perform his latest con.
He basically gave us a manager who is doing no better than Pardew while getting paid much more, has no budget, which he seems happy to shout about in the media rather than confront Ashley, and even more bizarrely the footballers get much less.

We won't have to wait so long for this particular debate to be concluded.

Here's hoping the winner is the club.

And the so called news of another interested party tonight just rubs salt into our wounds. He is not going anywhere and he is not spending a penny.January 31st over to you Rafa, what will you do?
I honestly thought we were getting rid and that Rafa was important in the takeover. This 2nd so called interested party tells us everything.Either no bid in 1st place or attempt to up the price.Either way result the same.No takeover.

I thought the same when I saw the news about another interested party. Just what Ashley needs to get through January "unscathed". We live in hope and I suspect Rafa does too.
