Nah, not Brisbane Road. The proper Orient.

I'm reading a few things here and there about people not being happy with Benitez. In truth I'm struggling to understand it. From where I'm sitting he's doing a good job with fuck all resources. He's made mistakes (telling the press his squad wasn't god enough was one of them) but he's still the best (only) man for the job. I've seen every game bar one (West Ham away as luck would have it) and I think we've looked ok. At times we've looked very very good. With a few quid for quality players we'll be a success under Benitez.

The FA Cup. I hope we have a go in this. My mate here is a Luton fan and I'll never hear the end of it if we don't smash them. It's our last chance of success this season and if we fail to have a proper go then I'm going to be pissed off about it. I realise it might be inconvenient to play football matches but we are supposed to be a football club so let's get on with it. No excuses about tiredness. Just do your jobs and get us in the hat for the fourth round.

Finally, 'Xinnian Hao Ya' to you all in 2018. It's not 'new year' here until February like, but all the same.

Good to hear from you OL.
hope things are still going well for you ' out there'.
No complaints from me about RB, think he's doing as good a job as can be given the lack of adequate investment. Hopefully he is part of the catalyst that ousts the Porcine one.

These are my main issues with him...

Buying Joselu in the first place (no better than Murphy who he let go) then sticking with him until his confidence looked shot but then weirdly dropping him for the next game after he eventually did score

We all realise the squad is shite but surely there is a strongest 11 he could focus on with minimal changes around it.....instead we have 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 changes on a regular basis. No one looks settled and they rarely look like they know what their roles are

Ostracising Colback and Mitrovic - I realise neither of them are world beaters but the squad is continually labelled a Championship squad playing in the PL, yet he has chosen to leave 2 players with valuable Premier League experience out in the cold......Ill never understand the Mitrovic situation like - no more of a heedtheball than Shelvey for me

I think most of my frustrations can be summed up by him 'fannying' too much.....its like hes got to win the game with his tactics rather than putting the strongest team out and let them have a go

Ive got a fairly long history of defending managers under this regime but I just dont think Benitez is getting anywhere near what he should be out of this squad

Thats not to say I want shot because if the takeover does happen he's certainly the right man for the job in the short to medium term but hes created a lot of problems of his own and doesnt seem to have many answers how to put them right. The players seem to be getting worse instead of improving and him telling the world they werent good enough in the first place is coming back to haunt him

Alll the best though LL......and happy new year to everyone

Like Birdys, hope all is well and no, I don't have any complaints about Rafa either. The problem is upstairs.

I keep coming back to the lack of investment. When you think about it, this squad has had a DISinvestment of £15m from the one that was relegated while the rest of the league has seen net investment of around £80m on average. We were even outspent by 4 Championship clubs last summer.

All the best for 2018.

Aye but Colback and Mitrovic are investment neutral (if thats even a term)

He's chosen to make a weak squad weaker

Colback is an awful player, awful. I can only think Mitrovic is a dickhead on a daily basis to warrant not even making the bench.

I’m sure many Premier League footballers are dickheads these days, but they still get a game because they’re better than the likes of Joselu.

Mbemba is another one who should walk into that weak defence.

£25m on Lejeune, Murphy and Joselu. Poor.

Aye but you would like to think that our 'world class' manager could maybe work with these characters and get the best out of them.....particularly under the circumstances here with such a limited budget

He's done the same with Mbemba Sells and Saivet for no apparent reasons

Edit: in response to PK

The problem is their best is still shit, anyone remember countless Mitrovic performances of missed chances and mindless decision making? The secret of good management is good players, yes you can work and develop certain players, but if they lack ability and more importantly intelligence then it’s a thankless task.

Mitrovics record more than favourably stacks up against Joselus ...particularly as it was his first season in the PL

Im not saying he would be any kind of saviour but surely its not totally inconceivable that he would have chipped in with 2 or 3 goals and the odd assist if given a half decent run

Its just the fact that its highlighted by sticking with the largely innefective Joselu for so long.....its taking the piss really

On the few occasions he has been given a run out its been the general consensus that hes offered more in the few minutes than Joselu had offered all game

I agree Joselu’s a fucking joke of a footballer, but Mitrovic is nowhere near the answer and is plainly doing something really wrong from day to day not to make the bench. It’s the fact that Mitrovic is the only alternative in the squad that makes us call for his inclusion. Agree on Murphy as well, I liked the ageing journeyman, I think he took a punt on Joselu and it’s proved a bad one, but let’s face it in terms of shite strikers we’ve signed in our lifetime 5 million is nothing.

I must confess to struggling over Mitro. There are some things he does well, notably for me the way he drops off to give himself space and options. Also, he is unselfish when a team mate is better placed. He has done well over the last year or so in internationals but then what about the quality of opposition?

Can you afford the risk of Mitro and Shelvey in the same team? I make it 5 reds and a couple of other bans between them in the last couple of seasons.

I think I can see where Rafa is coming from, particularly since he likes his teams to be disciplined. As a saleable asset, he is probably half the price of a decent Premier League striker. In the context of the season, it is the 2nd half that the big games come. I am mindful of Joey Barton's sending off against Liverpool with some crunch games left, when we were relegated in 2009.

Benitez we know is good when he has top players and money to spend but surely a real test of a Manager is when the players are not so good and you motivate and get the best out of them. Maybe Benitez is not so good in those circumstances.
No doubt the transfer window will be crucial, because purchases so far with little money have not been impressive. Joselu, Sels, Lejeune, to name a few.

I always thought there was a player in Mitrovic somewhere, but sadly his skull is too thick to let that player out, he’d rather have a fight than play football. He may be one of those players who will eventually realise at the age of 30 that he’s a decent player when he tries to play the ball not the man. Disappointing as I thought we had the makings of a really good player when we signed him.

He has driven down Mitrovics asking price for certain....if he himself values 5mil Joselu as a greater asset how much can he realistically expect for him in Jan?

Why not play, Mitrovic? I’m sick to death of hearing he’s a liability when in reality the team plays with 9 men with Perez and Joselu in the team.
