Far worse squad than the last two relegations so looks like Mike will make it a hat trick. Who in their right mind would buy us with that squad you need at least 150 million spent just to avoid the drop i reckon Staveley will be telling Mike to go and fuck himself in the next few days.

Simply not good enough. You can't have someone like Mitrovic in the squad and not even put him on the bench. For all his limitations you just can't run a squad with only two strikers, both who have proved they are not good enough for the PL. We are looking more and more like we'll be in the mackems position this time next season. How can a manager not even know his January transfer budget on the 30th December. Sleepwalking to relegation and Stoke will be looking forward to playing these set of pansies, even after a 5-0 hiding today.

Yes I think the takeover may be off at the price Ashley wants for a squad of average Championship players devoid of ideas. Benitez might be off to.
Why waste your time with this mob. We need a totally new squad and who is going to sanction that.
It's what happens when you have an arrogant owner with zero knowledge of football and a puppet Chairmam.
Could get worse if the Inland Revenue have a case.
No doubt we will get the usual sound bites from Benitez and the players.
Depressing but it's a mess that needs sorting pronto.

To be fair, no manager has ever known anything under Ashleys reign, they're simply not that important to him, they're interested in football, he's not.

The performances against Brighton home and away ,Burnley, Bournemouth and Watford have been dire. 5 games you could realistically target a better points return against. The players aren't good enough, the manager hasn't been good enough and we all know the owner hasn't .

I was typing pretty much the same thing simultaneously.

At first sight, £250m would seem to seem to seriously undervalue a Premier League club with the profit level that NUFC has been churning out.

However, the paper profit levels are artificial since they have been generated by asset stripping the squad. Nothing against the players but when you look at our fit full backs, Dummet is home grown with Yedlin and Manquillo both former Sunderland loanees. Merino is quality in midfield, or at least has immense potential but today's Premier League needs more than 1. We need 2 centre forwards and 2 number 10s.

In today's market, the investment that is required for a top half finish makes £250m look generous. Today's opponents have a net spend of £60m over the last 2 seasons compared with our net disinvestment of £12m.

If Ashley doesn't get a sale by slashing his price expectations, it is his own fault. The only other Premier League club to have had a transfer surplus over the last 2 years is Swansea and look where they are. As a Championship club, NUFC is worth maybe £60-80m max with the Ashley loan souring even that generous picture.

There is a simple way ahead. With the squad that we have, trade up at about £10m per player. £10m + Gayle could get a decent number 10, Mitrovic + £10m makes a decent CF. Manquillo + £10 gives a decent LB and so on. Of course, all that has to come off Ashley's valuation.

Not great today but two tight games this season against a team that came up with us, evenly matched. Did the double over them last season, they shaded it this.

Win at Stoke on Monday and it will have been a very successful festive period.

Benitez has had an easy ride so far and i dont doubt he is the best manager we have had in a long time but some of the performances this season have been dross. Why persist with Joselu when he is clearly shit when you have an international striker who cant even get on the bench. The tactics have been at times bizarre i can understand giving City respect hut to do the same against Brighton is baffling. We all know that Mike is the main cause but the money we did spend was wasted. I cant see the takeover happening as we look doomed so no doubt we will have Mike telling us in February that we need to live within our means and be grateful for what he had done.

The usual sound bites from Benitez "we worked hard" "the fans need to stay with us, we are in this together"
To my mind Benitez has had an easy run due to his past reputation which is impressive.
It's about time the team gave the fans some decent performances, they have backed him all the way.
His buys on a budget have not been impressive.
Looks like a long winter and if he does not get financial backing I expect him to walk.
Interesting transfer window upcoming which will indicate whether a takeover is on or its bullshit
Ashley should the temember that relegation will mean no offers for the club anywhere near what is currently on the table. It may a
Ready be too late.

Just to put in context, Brighton's net investment in the summer was equivalent to the total cost of our starting 11. When you add in the residual value of the likes of Dunk and Knockaert, a draw today was a good result.

With respect that's a very poor argument that would not have been accepted had you raised it in our championship winning season where we outspent our rivals.

Actually, we did not outspend our rivals. Just as an example, the squad that Rafa was given saw a net disinvestment of £30m or so. If you take a look at Villa, they had a net investment of £60m. Norwich, who also went down with us, had a net disinvestment, in their case, only £6m.

I might be guilty of extrapolating, Keggy, but you have a big point. One of the symptoms of what is wrong at our club is that players who should be considered as development potential and fighting to establish himself is actually pretty much a first choice when fit. Instead, if he doesn't perform, there is always Diame.

Today just underlined the underlining fact that we are not good enough and investment aside, it'll take a miracle for us to stay up.

I can defend Rafa saying positive things in the media about his team but his body language about it as well as the odd throwaway comment tell you the real story.

Spend a game watching Rafa and his gestures of unhappiness at his side just reek of the players not doing what they were told with far too many of them finding the step up just more than a bridge too far.

Our keepers are shit with no urgency or real distribution skills and even barn doors keep out the odd stray shot, so any decent shot stopper amongst them is out of the equation.

Lascelles is still a work in progress with his many good qualities being let down by his undeveloped experience levels.

Dummett is proven at this level to be an adequate addition and it's no wonder he's arguably been our best player since his return.

Clark is another Championship player who can perform at this level in 1 out of every 5 games or so. Today was one of his better ones.

Yedlin was caught out of position far too many times and the weak link.

Hayden was anonymous, as was Atsu.

Merino was one of our better players with no real outlet aside from Joselu who kept trying to set himself up rather than flick on.

Gayle is another that just isn't cut out for the premier league and dare I say Matt Ritchie as they were rubbish.

I would make available every single player aside from Merino and maybe Lascelles because we need a rebuild and quick.

Rafa doesn't get off from criticism because we've used the squad excuse for too long and by playing containment, we're achieving nowt. Nothing to lose by playing a midfielder further forward, instead of it protecting the back four.

I can understand the subs that were made today with Monday in mind but I would have taken off Hayden for Shelvey and let Merino roam. If anything the subs just played into Brighton's hands with us resorting to raking long passes whilst they sat back.

As it stands it seems we're down but again we sit outside the bottom 3 with none of this sleepwalking to relegation we had the last time. We know what our season goal is and investment will surely come.

If it does and it's of able quality, then and only then can the criticism of playing style be really judged. Just cant see us getting the minimum 5 or 6 players we need.

Just back from the game,we were clueless.
Forget about the citeh game, this was Brighton at home.
No cohesion,no pressing,no movement,not even the odd give & go,insipid.
Merino looked the only player with any meaningful quality & potential.
Atmosphere shit, but given the dross being served up there was nothing really worth shouting for, didn't hear any anti tubby songs tho. 2 kids about 9 spent the whole of the match playing games on their mobiles & one lass sat in front of us on her own in a pink dress shivering fucked off at halftime.
Fortunately we all won't have to endure what the aims of the club are for much longer, couple of weeks or even sooner we'll be put out of our misery one way or another when fatty decides to stick or twist.
