I get what you are saying Pie re the advantage last year in terms of squads and investments but what i would take into consideration it is notoriously difficult league to get out of and teams had been in that league for many years and know its physicallity etc, the manager nor the players didnt but they coped with it.
Every team had us as their cup final, i would wager when we came to town most grounds had their biggest crowd of the season they were up for beating a premier league team who they may or may not have thought we were the billy big bollocks with money and world class manager etc, they were all out to bloody the big boys nose.

not forgetting its football, anything could and does happen, if all things went according to form and stature etc i would have liberated bookies of a good few quid but alas it doesnt always go with form etc

I agree with most of what you say there TP.

Chris Hughton got us up first time as well though.

Shearer recently said that Rafa had Javier Hernandez lined up to come last Summer, with West Ham making him available now, I wonder if a loan is in the pipeline?

Could be some kind of swap deal with Shelvey? What do we reckon to Hernandez this season, I haven't seen much of him but he doesn't seem to be tearing up any trees.

I must confess my expectation is rapidly becoming one or two out, none in. Rafa will stay regardless. I reckon that fat bastard now expects the sale to go through sooner or later so he is not going to sign any cheques in the meantime and will strip any assets out he can.

Caulkin sums it up today nicely, basically Ashley couldn't give a fuck and never has done, there's simply no deals to be done cause Charnley hasn't got the power to authorise them and Ashley is not interested in even discussing it. A complete mess of a club.

Charnley, Ashley's Patsy, handling transfers means no progress. Just the usual claptrap and fluffing around until the window closes and then a load of bull about trying and being unable to agree fees etc. Etc.
Really is time for the fans to get real, all the time they attend matches under this regime Ashley is happy.
He just has to come on TV once a year and say he has made mistakes, and then disappear sniggering, leaving his yes men to answer any flak.
It really is pathetic.
I still hope beyond reason that the takeover happens but it's not looking good and should have happened by now.
The fact neither party can make a statement while it is apparently and I mean apparently going on merely clouds the whole issue and prevents any progress on any front.

Surely benitez knows if this takeover is happening I know he can't let on about it but why hasn't he said anything regarding Ashley shafting him again on the transfer front.

You'd have thought he'd say something piemag regarding the lack of activity. I wish he'd bite the bullet and tell fatty to fuck off but he won't because he wants his money.

I suppose Rafa has a decent job on good money and he can't lose. If he wins games its down to him and if he loses its down to Ashley. No pressure at all. A completely different scenario to taking a job at one of the current big money clubs.

Was looking on another forum for any news on the takeover.Someone put a link up.Dont know how reliable the site was.But doing calculations over the Ashley era and we have a net spend total of around 10m.How the fuck can any club compete in this day and age with that. Why has nobody questioned what he has been doing with the money.I dont mean us fans.I mean the media etc. Will post the link for you all to see.

Just reading that Newcastle/Everton are interested in Defoe from Bournemouth id have him he knows how to score goals but doubt he'd come here considering his ties with the mackems.

20th January is fast approaching with fuck all on the horizon.

Even that Man City has decided not to bother. Although I’m sure I was promised a vast wealth of strikers from them. Surely those within the corridors of St James’ weren’t wrong (or just completely made up people)?

I understand, but can't grasp why some of you others can't, that it is very difficult getting people over the 'line'. Also you can't imagine how expensive some of these 'free' players are.

I find these reports saying Newcastle are looking at the his player and that player laughable.
At this stage of the transfer window they should be making bids not just looking.
It's the usual non event as Ashley wants to hoard his millions. Let's hope his reward is relegation.

Straight sale no loans on him, pity he didn’t work out but he needs quality service and that is not available here. What’s this guy like? https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/atsu-we...

Idle thoughts; Shelvey for Sakho plus cash, Gayle for Cairney, a loan player (Kenedy?) plus Mitro plus the Shelvey cash and the transfer kitty, landing a quality striker. Would that improve the balance of our squad?

I dont think he will. I think if anything, he'll want to stay up and then call Ashley's bluff massively in regards to Summer funds.

Wont everyone have already renewed their season tickets by the summer though. He can do what he wants. He wont give a fuck what Rafa says or does at the end of the season.Same he doesnt care now.If he did we wouldve signed someone by now.We wont be getting anyone this window. In the summer it will be sell before buy.All the while if we stop up he will trouser the 1st payment of the new tv deal.
We should all be grateful. He saved the club you know.We couldve been a Leeds or Portsmouth if it wasnt for super Mike.Thats the line we have to tow isnt it.

Don't mention to anyone that our debt has doubled under Ashley as apparently money owed to the owner doesn't count. Funny how it appears to be reflected in the price he wants for the club.

With Charnley handling transfers nothing will happen with any urgency and we will miss out on most targets.
About time Charnley was put out to seed, absolutely hopeless, an embarrassment.

That's the part of the clubs (reported) finances I don't understand. How can he take money out of he club and then loan it back? When its his club anyway. Is that even legal? Can anyone shed any light on this?
