His kicking is obviously better than Elliot’s, but thought he could’ve done better on that pen, just stand up man. Made it easy for him.

Rafa's use of subs is baffling. At 2-1 could have brought on Shelvey and Aaron's but brings on Hayden.
No point having a bench if you don't use them.
Probably be 4 or 5 now and to think we had a decent goal difference once.
Relegation battle looming fast?

Aye, cannot get my head round his subs, you’re 2-1 down with nothing to lose you’re still in the game, still competing. Have a go, we were a different side midweek after those positive changes. Yedlin now, Jesus Christ Rafa. He’s got on my tits with this these last few weeks, if I’d have travelled I’d be fucking livid with a manager seemingly not interested in getting anything from the game.

2 shots on target the whole game says it all.

Surely would have been worth giving some of the bench 30 mins to try and salvage something.

One of Rafa's comments in the after match talking pretty much answers every question there is over selection and what not.

He said: "We are in the Premier League. That is the problem."

Almost pardew like with his patter isn't he.

Other teams with the same problem are ....

Brighton
Huddersfield
Bournemouth
West Brom
Palace
West Ham
Burnley
Watford
Swansea

When he picks a team to face any of the above a positive selection might help.

Lets be honest he's lost a few precious points already with his negativity.

Awful watch that, men against boys. We haven't got a player on our books that would make their bench. Really disappointed in Merino, he just seemed to give the ball away again and again.

That was fkn woeful to watch.A lack of quality all over the pitch.
I know Rafa is restricted in his team selection but how Diame & Perez have the chance to
put on a black & white shirt bewilders me,should always start with his strongest line up.
1 point from a possible 18 tells us all we need to know.
Either the fat fuck sells up or we're going straight back down.

Regardless of results, it's not relegation form.

In the last 6 games and a maximum of 18 available, we have earned 1 point. The gap between us and the bottom 3 was 6 back then but is now 5.

We cant cope with the top 4 teams but can mix it with everyone else as long as we dont make mistakes.

Ritchie made two today and needs dropping/resting in my opinion, go with Aaron’s and Murphy for a while, I realise that won’t happen as it’s too positive.

We were told when Rafa joined that he has his way of playing and may seem stubborn in his detailing.

The big problem he has here is that I reckon he's not as in the dark in regards to takeovers as he is making out and it may have been one of the reasons why his associates approached the club for him. His project is being held up by a lack of ambition as well as having to change an inbred losing mentality and apathy rife throughout, so on that score he's doing well if we're talking about the football again.

I can make a case for many of the strange decisions that people have mentioned in regards to Rafa's pickings with the only thing I can think regarding Diame is that the game was seen as a dead rubber and one where he could do ok in to get him in the transfer window.

After that though there can be no excuse whatsoever for him starting for us in any of the forthcoming games as he offered absolutely nowt.

It may sound defeatist but today was a case of damage limitation. ManU showed the gulf in class, today, so did the current champions.

In the context of the season, if players were rested to keep them available for the next 2 home games, I'm comfortable with that. Throw in West Ham away and 2 wins from the next 4 games puts us at 20 points, or put another way, over half way to safety with half the season gone.

It's easy to see what we need in the squad. Even considering how Ashley likes to do his business, there should be a further £20m in the kitty. Throw in some part exchanges and maybe a decent loanee, we might not have too many worries.

On the plus side today, Murphy is getting a run and we can see some encouraging signs, Darlow made some good stops, Gayle kept his name in the frame for a decent offer from a Championship side. With a decent manager here, the post match analysis will help the younger players develop. Merino will have learned a lot from being on the same pitch as Hazard and Fabregas.

I thought Benitez dropped a big bollock today with the formation

From what I could make of it Richie was played as a left wing back and looked massively out of his depth all game. He got little support and Im not really sure what exactly Benitez was expecting of him going forward with every chance their pace and creativity whould catch us out when he was up the pitch

I'd have preferred a more solid back four and to catch them on the break

In hindsight it does look like it was a mistake but in theory it was an ambitious effort.

Chances are we will get nowt at any of the challenging sides but mixing it up could be the best tactic.

I think he seen this game as a free shot and wanted to try something different, if he did you can’t blame him.

I genuinely think he's getting pissed off, if a take over doesn't happen then he'll be gone. He's too good for Ashley and frankly could be working for a much better owner.

Really dont know what he expects to get out of statements like that as we know full well that Ashley couldnt give a shit

The message hes just given to his players going into the next game is that they are not good enough.....good luck with that one Rafa

He has to be pissed off working for Ashley and i think he is only hanging round in the hope Ashley sells up and if he doesnt sell then Brnitez will go elsewhere. The last transfer window would have opened his eyes to how Ashley operates promise the earth and deliver fuck all.

Think as usual Ashley promised him money for transfers and then back tracked and i reckon Ashley has told him he is selling up and Ashley is like the rest of us hoping Ashley keeps his word but history tells us he rarely does.

That's about the jist of it I reckon. A false promise of a takeover muddying the spending waters before a few staged paper leaks and 1 or 2 TV interviews trying to smoke people out.

The last time with the fake Barry Moat thing, he got off lightly, this time if nowt happens should surely see major kick off and the value wiped off.

Not sure....the time for major kick off has long gone I reckon

Rafa still has his fans but his persistence with Joselu and other tactical frustrations have a lot of people asking questions

There will be a significant amount of fans pointing out Rafa's failings once he has gone to justify another season ticket renewal

I dont think there will be any major kick off times have changed, there might be the odd rumbling inside the ground but most supporters will carry on going the Keegan debacle proved that there is not the appetite for major protest and supporters are not prepared to boycott the club. Personally i gave up my season ticket but it probably had zero effect on Ashley but it made me feel better that he wasnt getting any of my money.

Were we not questioning Rafa's tactics this time last year after the win at home against Norwich that very nearly went tit's up and the Forest game?

Yes he does made some odd decisions and comes across as stubborn, but the gulf in class is massive and we are effectively a Championship side in the Premier League. I certainly wouldn't want him to go if we get taken over and if we don't get taken over (which I hate to say is the most likely) it doesn't make a fig of difference if Rafa stay's or goes as we are just a shell of a club and after ten years we all know how it plays out.
