I thought it was already common knowledge that he was open to offers? This 'before Xmas' is wishful thinking. Any potential investor will be doing due diligence and that might take a lot longer than they think. I'll not hold my breath for a quick sale.

Well I’m hoping the difference this time is two young prospects being tied down to long term deals and Amanda Staveley being seen at St James’ all in the last couple of weeks. So here’s hoping, but I’ll believe it when I see it where that fat parasite’s concerned.

Aye you said this ages ago G. Still think many are getting carried away on social media by saying they're getting the cans in because it's common knowledge now that what Ashley says and what he does are massively different.

My celebratory cans are on ice until the SD tat comes down and are in a heap.

I think HMRC will be doing due diligence also. I wonder if this has bearing on the sudden change of mind with Ashley or is he trying to force a move by Staveley?

Personally I think if there is any interest that the price involved will be much lower than Ashley thinks he can get thus the trying to flush out other buyers with some sort of structured deal promise as bait.

Dont know why the council cant buy the club as it's an important pawn in what money is brought into the area. Wouldn't take it long to get it's cash back by way of profit before selling a 51% stake to the fans.

Just reading the various articles on news now and it Is suggested the payments can be staged - that would suggest he is desperate to get out if that is true

The club is probably at its peak for sale now - in the EPL, good manager, mid table and not far off top six plus the TV deal

It won’t get better than now - he doesn’t want to invest anymore money so time is right to ship out before it goes tits up again

I think this is 100% genuine

I think a structured payment plan would just be an excuse to keep hold of the merchandise deals and have the tatty adverts around the ground for nowt until a deal is fully paid.

A good time to sell. Profit can easily be around £50m this season, looking to be enhanced by new overseas deals in future years. On Deloitte's rankings, it makes the club worth £700m minus debt.

The problem with that is Ashley likes to deal in cash. To maintain that value, he would have to put money into the club with transfer fees having escalated.

In his share dealings, he tends to sell when the price is high but at a bit of a discount. It is a gamble as to whether TV deals will continue to grow so he can be confident of walking away with a profit, some of which he can invest in an overseas league where he wants to expand his retail business.

Alternatively, I hear that Ellis Short is happy to swap Sunderland for a Donnay t shirt.

Aye, my lot is still getting on with the cards they've been dealt and we cant grumble. Hopefully everything is better or fine at your end. You're still a miss on here with your stat attack but hopefully Ashley does sell us in the near future and we can start to believe again.

If anything, a blank canvass of a new owner may instil fresh impetus in many of us.

To me it's an interesting development but without the optimism a lot of people seem to have. The key point in the statement released is "the club will give interested parties the opportunity of deferring substantial payments". Why put that out there ? Particularly if as has been reported there are currently four interested parties with three having supposedly signed non disclosure agreements. If talks are really at an advanced stage what business owner would consider disrupting an imminent sale ? Sadly I now don't believe anything will come to pass from those four parties.

I've a feeling this is either merely an attempt to smoke out investment whilst retaining control or the latest in his big book of excuses as to why the manager isn't backed in the forthcoming window. Ashley has shown his hand numerous times over the years and the golden rule is that whatever he says cannot be trusted, ever. In the summer he was suggesting that he'd be remaining as owner for the foreseeable future. If you want to get to the truth of a lie you ask yourself who benefits from it ? As ever only one man does, Michael James Wallace Ashley.

The little bits of info released are just full of holes anyway and im still filing it in the smokescreen drawer.

The deferred payments bit is the biggest contradiction and will definitely be there to keep Ashley's tat stuff on the ground but for it to be said by the club that Ashley wants to sell to allow greater investment in everything then that means that they have to have more money than him thus not needing to pay in instalments.

Even then with the financial fair play shite, we cant be bought and Rafa then be armed with a massive kitty as far as I know although the many potential income stream increases could.

Still think come February 1st that many will be disappointed with another typical transfer window under Ashley.

We need to hope this is done quickly, no chance of major investment in any window this side of a sale now. Hoping for the best but far from convinced about Ashleys motives.

Murat Ülker - Not sure on this one

I hate to be a greedy twat (any I want rid of fatso) but are they rich enough

A 2.8 billion worth isn't to be sneezed at but top clubs these days are run by people 5 to 6 times richer

if we want to really push on we need a good few transfer windows at 100 million plus (not 50 to 60 million)

To me could be one of the same to increase revenue for his own business

Lets be fair

He'll want his £134 million plus his loan which was what £150 million

Hes not shifting an ounce for less than 300 million.

Hes not well known for meekly surrendering is he? He'll go when he gets what he wants and not before hes got every speck of meat off the carcass

For us to compete at the top end of the league its going to take a huge investment. My personal preference would be money from the arabs, with the Qatar world cup coming up and coupled with Amanda Stavely at the ground a few weeks ago. Football out here in the middle east is massive they all love the premier league.

I will be surprised if they can find anyone prepared to pay north of 250m, I fear this is an Ashley ruse, another one he "couldn't get over the line".

The main problem I see is that the playing squad is thin and of questionable quality, high wages and long contracts abound. Lose Rafa and they look relegation candidates (or even certainties). Too much reliance on one man makes for a difficult sell. How much would it cost to put that right?? Another £150m capital outlay plus £30m pa wages as a minimum.

What concerns me also is that the purchase price quoted may not include repayment of the existing interest free loan. That might be just a provision (for want of a better word) in the accounts.

Frankly the investment doesn't look too attractive to me. You would have to be a fan, or just want a new toy.

Well if tonight’s rumour mill is to be believed Staveley has a 7 billion pound fund to go buy, run and invest in a football club all Arab money

It’s between us, Spuds and the Scousers

That sort of money to anyone makes them a force to be reckoned with within a couple of years
