I cant agree with you lads sorry
Man U already have the brand in place, and its global already ! all they would do is expand their ground to keep beating any rival. Being bigger than them not only comes down to the biggest crowd capacity.

Which is a fair point, but Citeh or Chelsea were hardly big brands 12 years ago, and look where they are now.

As mentioned NUFc is a one club city, a real owner chasing trophies, playing good football, would undoubtably fill a larger stadium.

just a personal view mind....

Nobody knows how big the club can be because it's the only big club left that's had no domestic success for over 60 years.

I've always believed with a bit of real success we'd be a massive club , I see us as very similar to Liverpool.

Aye agree with guy,
look at Man City, the very fact that the likes of Giggs had to declare Man U as the bigger club before the derby shows how far they have come in a short time.

With real money and our huge support base there are no limits.

Come on TP dream a bit

Of course the first part is not done yet so i'll zip the lip.

Completely agree, Manyoo will always have a sentimental vote after Munich...

If the club played Keegan football in the near future, 100,000 would not even be enough.

Remember back then it was 36k fully paid up season tickets, at season start, huge waiting list, could easily have filled 60k in those days.

To me that shows the success that is craved, would have huge knock on's both off pitch, with advertising, and merchandise. That is the hidden cost of FCB, both have shrunk since he took over undoubtably.

I 'm probably in a minority here but I genuinely believe we can be bigger than Man U.

Obviously not in terms of trophies, but if we were in Man City's position for example, who would bet against a full 100,000 seater stadium every home game (Takes sip from can of Carlsberg)

A real business person will see 300 million + as a snip.

Now back to being bigger than Man U,their legendary status started with a plane crash,so all we need is a plane and our star studded team on it.

Don't take offence anyone......
Spot on Pie Mag.
Potentially Newcastle could be bigger than Man Utd given real investment.
They'd have no problem filling out a 100,000 seater ground if we were competing for the P.L & Champions League year after year.
Citeh still have empty seats f.f.s.
The ground would be heaving every game given were a 1 city club, starved of silverware with a fanatical support base.
It's only going to take the price of Neymar to buy the club & someone with imagination & serious investment.
Bottom line is the whole future of the club could be decided in the next 6 weeks & it's down to whether one fat fucker calls it a day, fills his pockets & does one.
Meanwhile we all take sips of Carlsberg & wait...

There does not appear to be any sense of urgency from either side, meanwhile we are dropping points.. There is no guarantee that new signings will blend in immediately and improve the team.
Is Benitez capable of fighting a relegation battle, not the same as managing Champions Leagu sides or Championship promotion.
No doubt he has bought crap on a limited budget.
We are walking blindfolded over the cliff and the hierarchy don't care.

Well if Ashley wanted out by Xmas then he is cutting it fine. Twelve weeks this thread has been going now and it seems like there is stalemate between the two parties. Hardly a rumour about progression and not an olive branch in sight.

They are keeping it under wraps, no point in telling everyone just before the transfer window we have £billions of middle eastern money behind us, do the deals we need, then tell everyone.

Just a thought

I still think Ashley has been winging it again with him panicking over Rafa showing his unhappiness in the Summer and him just stringing us along in the hope he can waste time without kick off.

I think Rafa thinks this too.

I also think Rafa being here is the biggest spanner in the workings of Ashley keeping to his script.

I might be in the minority but I believe in Rafa. I also think Ashley has done the deal already. Interesting to read the 'big club' debate. Over here in China I see nowt but Man City shirts. They have an affiliated football school here and they will get the first pick of any good locals. I wouldn't worry too much about that like, they are fucking shite.

I've signed on for another contract here so it means I'm here until at least the summer. Still enjoying it very much. Speaking a smattering of Chinese now. Not a great deal mind, but more than I imagined I'd know when I started. I can say these things in the following order.

Have you eaten?

Would you like to eat?

Come for a drink?

You're very beautiful?

Back to my place?

(To taxi driver) Take me to (x x x x)

How much? (To taxi driver, not girl)

So, that's my social life covered. In the classroom I've learned to aim a piece of chalk at any one of the 50 or so heads that might be misbehaving and I can tell them to stop fighting. I also got my second promotion since I arrived here and I'm now referred to as 'teaching master'. It's a beautiful life , but right now it's fucking freezing. I'm walking about like an eskimo. It's getting me into character anyhow as I'm playing Santa Claus over the next few days.

Merry Xmas everyone and Xin nian hao ya to you all.

p.s. If anyone wants a job teaching out here send me a PM. I can get you the gig if you want it. You'll need a degree as a minimum qualification.

Great to hear all of this OL.

Was talking to 2 lads who are playing China Tour golf, and were a bit pissed with the attitude of some Chinese, getting the vibe they were talking behind their back, spitting everywhere, feeling they could be incredibly ignorant at times.

Looks like you have a good gig going, all the best for xmas, and happy new year..

Benitez knows somethings going on.

"I will say something that I've said before. When I came here it's because I believe that this club can be one of the top teams in the Premier League.

We have to do things right and we have to stay in the Premier League. And we can compete next year with Premier League money. We can compete against anyone apart from maybe the top six, but we have to do well this year, we have to be sure that we stay in the Premier League that's the main thing.

I have confidence that we will do it because the team is working hard, and also I have confidence that we will do something in January that will give a lift to the team, to the fans and everyone. So it's what we have to do, if we do that still I believe that this is a top side that can be at the top of the table in the Premier League."

I wish I shared your optimism O.L. that fatties done the deal.
I still think it's all smoke & mirrors & that even if we get relegated we could bounce straight
back up with minimum investment,he's a gambler & a sociopath,a heady mix.
I think we're being played,hope I'm wrong.
Sounds like you're having a ball in China.Hope you're still twanging them strings.
Have just finished my album, p.m. me your address & al hoy one in the post for you.

Nice to hear from you OL, sounds like its been a good move for you over there.

As regards the takeover I must confess its looking like smoke and mirrors to me too. Ashley just pissing about. As I posted years back I still maintain in the current structure the best way to make money is to be a yo yo club. Spend nowt in the premiership and just coin it, if you get a couple or three years all the better. Spend a bit to get back out of the championship first shot (hell of a lot less) and bank the parachute payments. Repeat ad nauseum and sell off any top players you happen across for big money. If you spend to go up the premiership you risk all the TV money just going into the players and agents pockets.

Very good to hear from you OL and pleased as punch that things seem to be working so well for you out there.

I'm actually quite relaxed about the takeover. Waited 10 and a bit years. Few more weeks won't hurt.

He'll sell Mick. Reality will hit Ashley like a smack in the mouth*. Don't sell; go down; lose money. Time to hit the cash out button I think.

Benitez had a conference call with the fat cunt but still doesn't know his budget. Surely if Ashley was going to remain in charge he would know how much he was willing to invest, so to me it seems the takeover is quite close.

To be fair Mac I think Benitez was giving a budget of sorts but Ashley broke his promises. I remember Ashley saying on TV that Benitez could have every penny the club raised in the summer then not coughing up the money for Abraham which was the first player that Benitez had lined up.

Well - looks short of a story to me Toony- you must admit there's nothing in that article at all. There was speculation last month that a bid was made and it was under what the seller (over-ambitiously) wants. What's new in this article? Other than the writer hasn't heard anything and is putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5?

Billy - there has never been concrete interest in buying the club before. This time it was actively encouraged. Ashley's a gambler but no one backs dead ducks. No sale; go down; lose a fortune; miss opportunity. I'm still relaxed about things.

It does look like an easy story to write but I refuse to be drawn into getting carried away with the talk of a takeover for fear of being let down and for that reason I believe all stories that pour scorn on it.
