If the £250 million figure is genuine I don't see it as a joke. We know what this club has been and could be but let's look at the reality of the situation, the sleeping giant doesn't need smelling salts to wake up it needs a defibrillator. We're currently a club with a squad that very likely won't have enough quality to stay up. We may do but that's as much down to the uncertainties of other teams and the vagaries of a football season as it is to the manager and players. A new owner would have to immediately pay a lot of money in the January window to guarantee Premier League status (at least in the region of £40-50 million), in a best case scenario Ashley may sanction something along the lines £10-20 million. As a new owner you then have subsequent windows after that to invest in and to try to make us a top 6 club or chase the real money which is Champions League, that's just talking about players. Then you look at the infrastructure of the club, the facilities the ground situation, the academy all further expenditure required.

Ashley if reports are to be believed won't accept the initial instalments bid and won't entertain a penalty clause in the wake of relegation. If the club's relegated how much can he ask then ? What's the highest price paid for a Championship/Premier League yo-yo which is what we will have become ? I know Villa were recently linked with a £65 million sale. Fulham were sold for what is believed to be £200 million to Sadiq Khan when Fulham were struggling in the top flight and West Brom were sold for £175 million (for an 88% stake). Then you have the unknown quantity of the HMRC investigation, which I've long taken the view must have something on the club otherwise why would Ashley and co attempt to keep documents out of court hands ?

The fact that they're reportedly still talking is positive but the longer a deal takes I'd say the tougher sell it is for Ashley. He is a gambler and he may be holding on hoping someone else comes in, he will undoubtedly use the sale as a deflection tactic in January if nothing is ratified prior and if we stay up the price of £300-£350 million looks a fairer one but if we go down it could well be as Bananarama said a "cruel summer " for both fans and owner alike.

Of course another key area that would be impacted by a takeover is the coaching side and the position ofChairman. Lee Charnley would hopefully be replaced by someone a bit more dynamic, not difficult.
Dave Watson and Beardsley would be replaced and Benitez might well bring in another 1st team coach.
All these would hopefully see the club improve overall in performance and public relations. About time to.

Something doesn’t quite add up in all this

If I’d signed a non disclosure agreement I’d be getting pretty peed off that all these titbits were coming out in the press.
Unless it’s all a cunning plan to distract from a zero spend in January.
A 250mil bid is pretty derisory unless HMRC have them bang to rights and expect a massive fine.
Part of me wonders if Benítez is setting the team up & pushing them as best he can.Threat of relegation & a January transfer spend might scare Ashley into accepting something a bit lower.
If we go down, his lucks ran out,he’d be lucky to get 180million.

Overall I’d be amazed if it happened still

My main gripe now is with Stavely and PCP, these people portray themselves as top of their tree in financial circles, but fuck me how long does it take to decide on a value of a club, if you don't think it's worth £350m don't fucking buy it...

All these ' If we get relegated, etc, etc, clauses ' , buy the club, then make sure it doesn't happen, haggling over £30-40m is ridiculous when you look at the money spunked by Citeh and Chelski on players who then go out on loan, they must be in the £ billions..

Amanda my dear, these are the teams we will be competing against, if you and your partners cannot raise that type of money, then just say so.....

They don't owe us or the club anything at this stage. Why should they pay over what they feel the club is worth based on their due diligence? The club is only worth what someone is prepared to pay. If you're selling a house that is currently worth 250'000 but with some adjustments/building work might be worth 300-350'000 you wouldn't wait for the big offer to role in as you'd never sell it . You sell it at the going rate or do the work and sell it for dearer. Of course it could well be you don't really want to sell it at all.

If we are using the analogy of House building, the the present St James Park Building alone is worth over that in today's market place.

Just look at Spurs ground, which will cost twice the £350m figure PCP get St James Park for.

Why do we suppose neverton still play at goodison, to build a new premisership ground in todays market will cost the thick end of £600- 900m.

PCP never have to worry about those costs...

Im happy that they are doing thorough due dilligence at least we wont have the scenario that was Ashleys making where he bought the club on a whim and moaned because he hadnt looked at the books. I reckon its Ashley that is leaking to the media in the hope of getting a few more quid. Perhaps PCP should offer to roll a dice on the price thats how Ashley likes to do business.

Looking for any crumbs of optimism I read that the purchase of Man City (when Staveley was involved) was completed on the last day of the transfer window. It depends on how much the prospective buyer is willing to go to. We can only guess which way this is going.

The takeover talk is just overshadowing everything, today proves it when absolutely nowt is happening or there to discuss.

We'll soon find out if there's something there or it's just what we suspect in that it's a smokescreen. Time is running out.

Gilly do you honestly believe you are supporting our club. The hearts been ripped out of it.Under Ashley its all take and nothing is ever given back except relegation and poor cup runs.I read somewhere yesterday we have only won 4 or 5 FA cup matches since the fat one took over.Surely you cant as someone who has kept going be happy with that.
Also you dont like it when people criticise those who still attend. So dont criticise those who choose to stay away. Its your choice to go and ours to stay away.

Sorry...I should have said “Supporting the team”
Give or take 3 or 4 seasons I’ve only ever known struggle during my fifty years on earth. I’ve only ever known shite owners.
If people are going to criticise me for supporting the team do I not have the right to challenge their non support ?

Okay.Just confuses me a little if everyone that has kept going is for the reason of supporting the team. Then why has it been heard numerous times the chant of "you fat cockney bastard get out of our club".That chant must spur the players on no end.I just hope this takeover goes through for everyones sake.

Hmmm , seems a bit too staged to me like. If they can meet for a ruby why can't they just get the deal done in the boardroom ? Mind you she's got a carry out which means she's a good sort and might hopefully agree to a higher asking price whilst he's vomming in the fireplace.

More informal setting, maybe more can be said face to face and get tight down to brass tacks without the whole formal business team set up as a boardroom environment brings. Lots of business gets conducted on a golf course .

Can't see the rotund one can't swing a club !

But taking a positive out of the pic.... There does not appear to be any solemn faces.

Ashley likes to conduct his business informally but he's normally too pissed to remember what he's agreed too. On another point I'd still slip Mands one.

I’ll take any positives.

The fact they have met, look reasonably relaxed is a good thing

Headline recently have all been about how pissed off and angry the club were about leaks etc etc

They don’t look like they are at each other’s throats, staged or not

We can pretty much be sure PCP are the only company in the running - I reckon the deal will be done for 300 million as a one off payment with no ties

I think he is not yanking our chain this time. I believe he genuinely wants out (maybe he is just fed to the back teeth with football ....let's hope so)
I am led to believe he has reported his intentions to the FA re selling, maybe this is to do with fit and proper test being carried out. As previously mentioned if he is keen to get out the £300 million is a figure both sides can agree on without either loosing face.

Richard Desmond being pictured there is interesting.

A) why's he there unless involved with either party ? We know he's not involved with Newcastle United and as far as I know he's not involved with any of Ashley's other interests. He can only be there if involved with Staveley or PCP in some way, shape or form.

B) Why would he be punching the air ? That's only ever a triumphant celebratory joyous thing, unless you're pilled up, in which case you might punch the air in a club to any old shite, (to my eternal shame some years ago I once had a very emotional reaction to Europe's The Final Countdown whilst on pure Mdma) or you're so off your face you're swinging punches at nothing, neither of which would apply here.

Is all this PCP stuff a smokescreen ? Are they really representing Richard Desmond ? Weird how not one paper he's involved with had these pics or this story.

Ive been told things by a few people, each with a slightly different part of a chain that we are indeed close to being rid of the fat man. Armed with this knowledge, I still stop myself believing even if the evidence is mounting up.

It's just a pity we cannot clarify whether the sale has been put to the footballing authorities as has been whispered because that would be all the evidence I need now.
