You're so successful you have enough time on your hands to stalk out Co.Durham pubs for anonymous posters on an internet messageboard.

The 'rumour mill' this morning has due diligence done or almost complete and a bid going in imminently.

With legal 'keep quiet' thingees allegedly signed, I dont know how this info can be taken with anything but a pinch of salt but things do seem different this time with this takeover talk. With 8 weeks or so left before Xmas, this certainly would be one of those gifts for us that money couldn't buy.

I sense something happening this time. Those cunts in The South will be gutted if The North gets another Superclub.

That was unbelievably quick, HMRC haven't finished their due diligence yet. As for the other 3 that have signed the NDA ? Have they had their perusal of the books yet, (if there is another three potential buyers). I'll put the sherry and carrot on hold for Xmas eve.

Due diligence could have been going on longer than has been mentioned or been at an earlier period. Even the Ronny Gill reckon that PCP have been sniffing for 6 months.

As for the other alleged interested parties, I dont think there really was and will have been one of the reasons for Ashley's recent TV love in with David Craig in order to drum up other interest or bump up the price of this bid.

As for the HMRC, it's been said that it isn't putting a bid off and why would it? On a club level, there is little if any punishment that the club can get but on a personnel level, there could be criminal charges against those who have done any wrongdoing.

Im still in the pessimistic camp due to having ingrained gloom over the Ashley years but those who are making noises about being in the know reckon this week could see big developments. Let's hope so.

Yes lawyers and accountants could have been in for months - maybe the results have been positive hence why PCP have broken cover now as a genuine bid is expected

Playing devils advocate maybe PCP are boxing a little clever because if they have been sniffing for six months or so they will know the rift between supporters and owner so making things public sort of puts pressure on Ashley selling if you see what I mean

Whoever it is, and all the pointers are Quatar from the people I know, it has all the trademarks of Ashley officially putting it up for sale, even at the expense of the original potential buyers, to try and get a few more buyers out of the woodwork.

The fact he ran the risk of pissing somebody off, makes you wonder what his true motives are, mine are, he is looking to maximise his return (no surprise), thinks HMRC have a case, and now is a time to bail.

HMRC will undoubtabley chase him even after a sale, a point deduction would have a massive cost effect on his value of the club, maybe a cut price deal, out quick, would be his best option, and a xmas present for the North East.

The HMRC has no power whatsoever in enforcing any point deduction and if the FA decided that there was any case to answer then it would open up a big can of worms if they acted retrospectively. If proven, at worst I reckon it's slapped wrists and fines for Ashley and co wherever they are. Maybe even the threat of jail but that's unlikely.

The FA have though, and have in the past, that is the in ponderable about it, remember we never get a fair rap from the FA. How many times have they screwed us over????

And will provide a good bargaining tool to drive the price down, which makes the matter all the more significant in any negotiation.

Will be placing my bet this afternoon, as to the clubs new owners, have a meeting with our man....

If a meeting does take place and Ashley, for once, doesn't play the funny bugger and increase the asking price or turn up at all then the only hold up would be what he actually wants to sell.

If he wants to sell 100% of everything then it shouldn't take long to sort but if he wants any sort of clothing deal or advertising left here then it'll all be off and the delaying tactics back in play.

Yes agree, any prospective buyer would want a complete sale, and be rid of the jumble sale banners etc... Any new owner would give the place a massive lift, by doing that only....

If the back down on clothing / advertising, they don't have the dough to really compete at the top table.

One of the provisos of any deal would be to take back the back the land at St James' metro station which the fat cunt stole from the club.

If the Premier League started deducting points for tax evasion nobody would have any points at the end of the season. You could win the league simply by paying the most tax every year.

Just a note on due diligence, it doesn't have to take as long as some people think.

When the club was a PLC, accounts had to be quite detailed. Financial Fair Play means that clubs have to abide by certain standards. Those of us who used to be shareholders and read the accounts could have told Ashley about the debt levels that were reported to be a surprise. Nowadays, we can pretty much predict how much cash is in the club and within 5% or so work out profits and so on.

The biggest parts of costs are in players' contracts. Revenues break down into TV, gate and commercial so these will be looked at. Likewise, for cash into the club from player sales will be checked, including (for example) Sissoko's instalments. It is also known that the club don't own the land on which SJP is built.

If potential buyers have done their homework, a business that is effectively based on 2 sites (SJP and the training ground) can be sorted out within weeks. As for Staveley's operation, she has brokered football deals before so she and her team should know what they re looking for. It wouldn't be surprise if she already had advertisers already lined up to replace Ashley's red white and blue. However, other overseas potential investors may have to pay an expensive team to start from scratch.

Christian Purslow just been on SSN and said that its extremely unlikely that we would be sold in time for January and that the only person to benefit from a quick sale would be Ashley - unless someone took a gamble before the latest deal and hoped we stayed up. Fuck knows - probably a massive load of bollocks.

I would imagine the buyer would want a deal cut before Xmas, so that Rafa can have funding and build further.

Realistically, as it's not a buy from countless share-holders, just from one bloke, I think it can be done.

Due Dilligence, then not much else in it.

Been some funny goings on in the Middle East these past couple of days regarding corruption, arrests, missiles being shot down and alleged accidents involving influential people including royalty.

Be just typical if a sale was ended on the back of something like this and that's before we even mention the paradise papers.

We really should not be looking Middle-East for investment.

For the reasons you've mentioned. The whole place is, and always will be, a tinderbox.

the word out here is the arrests of influential people is to do with the royalty positioning the correct person in event of the kings death. The value of the corruption insde the country is supposedly worth 2 trillion pounds, a local said to me if its worth 2 trillion inside the region then you can bet its worth 15-20 outside.

the missile business is more chest puffing between the two major power players of the region.

It's getting close to the stage where we'll either get a breaking news slot on Sky Sports saying a deal has been agreed or that Ashley has taken the club off the market.

Either way, a decent spend is needed in January. Nee excuses.

What is it now 3 weeks since the story broke? 4 -6 weeks for due dilligence which in theory means if we don't hear before the 1st December it's unlikely it's happening, he won't spend fuck all in January, maybe enough for a journeyman striker and we'd have to be bottom three before that happens.

No news is probably good news at the moment

Because if it was off or the club was taken off sale we would all bloody know about it and would be headline news

With Ashley’s reputation they will be going through everything again and then again I would imagine

Not sure it would be, any lies he likes to broadcast, any truths he likes to keep quiet. Agree about his reputation, it could well just be the longest due dilligence ever undertaken because of the insufferable prick you're actually trying to do business with.

That sounds better to me than a price being agreed and then upped at the last minute like usual as it shows negotiations haven't broken down.

Id also say this would put sense to the other reports of interest as it'll be PR talk to try to cause an auction and if anything, when or if that other interest doesn't materialise then December would be the cut off point to either accept this offer or take it off the market and the eventual shitstorm.

The first offer is always going to be, dare I say, derisory and dismissed out of hand. Now Ashley has said he wants rid of the club and it's the price he's prepared to accept (that in his eyes shows he's the winner).
