Rexn - 16/10/2017 22:27

A good time to sell. Profit can easily be around £50m this season, looking to be enhanced by new overseas deals in future years. On Deloitte's rankings, it makes the club worth £700m minus debt.

The problem with that is Ashley likes to deal in cash. To maintain that value, he would have to put money into the club with transfer fees having escalated.

In his share dealings, he tends to sell when the price is high but at a bit of a discount. It is a gamble as to whether TV deals will continue to grow so he can be confident of walking away with a profit, some of which he can invest in an overseas league where he wants to expand his retail business.

Alternatively, I hear that Ellis Short is happy to swap Sunderland for a Donnay t shirt.

Wow.. Amazingly brill to see a post from you RexN.

Thanks for the reception, great to see you're still here. Hope all is well.

Whilst the rumour mill is quiet, many people have given their thoughts as to what a takeover would mean including the likes of Shearer who have basically said that expectations have been lowered all these years and it would be good to get them back.

Another view is one from Rex, His usual decent work. Link here. http://www.newcastle.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=509351

Another bit of interest is that Lee Ryder said he raised his eyebrows at seeing one of the names on the NDA list that he thought would be good, a list he hasn't revealed mind so I dont know how he knows. With Sting and Jimmy Nail at the game on Saturday, it would be easy to link this.

If Ashley doesn't sell this time then aside from things collapsing around him, he wont get a better price than now.

I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. Ashley has put the club up for sale. What he hasn't said is 'If my asking price is not met then no sale'.
The feel good factor has suddenly taken off with the emergence of credible buyers whose intentions we can only guess but the feeling suggests a better scenario than the present. Ashley said in his arranged interview 'if someone comes along and puts more money into the club than I'm prepared to do then I'll not stand in their way.' So this is where it gets interesting. It was one huge laugh to many that Ashley didn't do due diligence when he bought the club and it hurt him, no doubt about that. You would expect that those parties who signed the NDA will go through the books with a fine tooth comb. They may take a different stance and find the asking price too high and walk away. It's in the balance as far as I can see. Too close to call.

Im still in the disbelieving camp but am curious with many aspects that seem to give this credence.

One being that so many people with decent links seem to believe it's on regardless of the amount of lies we've been fed or the weekly dose of PR shite we get.

I'm trying to keep a level(ish) head about it all. Be interesting to know what price MA puts on the huge weekly advertising that he receives for bugger all.
I think he'll have fixed a price and there will be very little negotiating room.

Very interesting that, no matter how you look at the finances it basically points to an Abramovich type coming in as being the only answer to progress a football club these days.

Reading that this person values the club at only £260m-£280m means i think there are going to be a lot of people gutted when fatty is still the owner after Xmas.

They dont really. They have given a valuation on different scenarios with one seeming to point at that figure although they state that if it's run to a greater potential or if certain things continue at the level they are now then it is worth £568m.

Basically it's like buying a classic car on a reduced price that needs work doing but knowing the value will rise in the long term.

When you go to buy a 2nd hand car offered for sale at say £10,000 - do you say 'the car is worth £10,000 and just pay it? Or, like most people, would you inspect it and say something 'I think it's only worth £7,000, that's what I'm offering you for it'?

If it's the former, I have a car for sale, for £10,000.

Newcastle in it's current state isn't worth it's true/existing figure, so if there really is a buyer then they would be bidding on it's eventual worth in my opinion.

If that car you refer to is a Ferrari with it's wheels missing then id say it's a similar comparison and id snap hands off for that.

My point being, if Fat Mike says 'this is the price', it's completely standard for a potential buyer to quote it's worth half that. It doesn't mean to say they won't agree a price, despite initially being poles apart.

I agree and maybe another factor is that Ashley may feel that he's got his money's worth of advertising with SD being well known now. Maybe tainted as well.

Just hope this comes off.

bbc, think TNMW's response to this pretty much sums up my feelings. Seems the (alleged) figure MA is asking for the club and the 'real' value are somewhere around 100m apart. Know there is an awful lot of investment required but what could the club be worth with that right level. There is also (seemingly) the scenario these days that some buyers are buying clubs for the 'mine is bigger than yours syndrome.

I’ve not swallowed the bullshit and the PR

I guess for me it is just wishful thinking - i live in the hope more than anything else that there is a morning I wake up with the headlines Ashley’s Gone

I reckon the club will go for £350 million maybe even with an odd add on so halfway between

We only seam to have heard about PCP because Staveley was seen at a game

That sums it up a lot more concisely than I did.

There are people out there who want a vanity project. There are others who realise the value of sporting franchises as brands. There are several possibilities for making money, by building the brand, guaranteeing TV revenues or moving to the next level.

As for your Ferrari, you could strip it and sell off the parts (what is the squad worth if sold before the end of contracts?) you can spend on tuning it up and racing it for prize money, hire it out or just drive it around and pose. Each has its value.

Ironic really that Staveley's investment vehicle has the same initials as Personal Contract Purchase.

As they say, at the end of the day, it's midnight.

When or if we get a new owner, aside from the majority feeling like we've won the pools, there is bridges there to be built again. That's a hidden factor that wont have been thought of.

How easy is it for those loyal folk who followed through thick and then to then get the chance to love their club again? I wonder how many will try to get tickets again and has any potential owner thought of the disconnected who could potentially give us a willing customer base of between 80 - 100,000 a game?

Leazes Park is still an eyesore but with the right investor on board, could still play a part in both the club's and the city's future plans.

I can hear them all now, already: 'I stayed with the club through thick and thin'. No. You deserted, because you couldn't take the rough with the smooth.

'Glory-hunting' is what it's called.

You don't desert your football club, because they've got a cunt as an owner - you stay with them.

*next thing to complain about, same people, is how much prices have gone up in order to help fund the level.

I wonder what the chances of Ashley buying Rangers lock; stock and barrel

They love there Slazenger polo shirts and Donnay vest tops up there

He could get champion league footballl for less that 15 million a season

Does he still own the image rights or did he sell them back

Paper talk tonight reckons the Staveley 'bid' is approaching half a billion and involves Middle East and Chinese investors. It's also worth remembering that contracts have allegedly been signed to stop any leaks, so it's worth little at present.

You have been making the case for you returning for some time, Ry. Without ever acknowledging you were one of the most voiciferous advocates of never doing so, when the cap fits, eh?

DLG isn't the brightest, I get that, and is one of the reasons I didn't respond further to him. But to spell it out, he, and I suspect you, just don't get your own hypocrisy.

All supporters I know who have continued to support openly admit they have done fuck all to oust Ashley. I get it, I admit it.

However, you had your chance to contribute your little bit via suggestions on here or other movements/campaigns and you have also done fuck all.

Don't try being all pious, you slinked back "because of the grandbairns", yeah right.

The team were winning, you didn't need much persuading.
