Excellent display Ritchie is class Merino looks like he could be a class act. Atsu is a bargain on todays form and i would leave Merino and Hayden even when Shelvey is back. I dont like the lad at right back but the whole back four played well even though west ham were woeful.

Just pay Dortmund the Merino money now . Kid's class on the ball , reminds me of a young Modric , not physically the strongest but his technique and control are so good it makes up for it. How many class balls has this lad played in just his 2nd start ? 6 or 7 incredible through balls.

MOTM Ritchie, wonderful performance.

Close but Merino for me.

That 4-5-1 formation as Rafa plays it works well when you go a goal up but it's awful if you go a goal down .

A good solid team display today... cant think of a player who had a bad/poor game
Ritchie was immense today got stuck in and worked his bollocks off.
Merino looks a class act, to adapt to the league and speed of it takes some doing, i like the comparrison to a young Modric, i thought a young Fabregas but not to sure of Merino's tackling so Moderic is more apt.
Atsu i was never his biggest fan but so far this season he is having a good start
Mbemba i have always liked as a player and the prem suits him, less robust
Clark is a solid player also,

MofM for me Ritchie

Ritchie is the best player at the club, IMO. Immense at times. I'd be wary of bigger clubs sniffing around him.

Atsu is fast improving.

Not enough of Merino yet, but have a feeling he will grow into the role and then excel.

Merino was man of the match by a mile. A potential star in waiting, just probably not here unless we complete a permanent deal.

The whole team put in a shift and Manquillo for being a written off Mackem surprised as he bombed forward time and time again.

Special mention to the bird of whatever it was that seemed to shit on Rob Elliot's heed late on.

I'll do a full write up when I'm back home later.

Some really good individual performances.Ritchie,Merino,Clark & Joselu were superb.
Collectively played well as a team, thought they pressed really well all over the pitch.West Ham were shit.
Atmosphere was canny too even in the family enclosure.
Had a few pints in Rafferty's(Star wars bar)after the game & young kids were dancing on the tables, partying, makes you wonder what it would be like if we actually won something, need them 3 signings quickly to try & consolidate & for the fat fuck to leave our city.

A great day and great atmosphere, although yes, WH were shite.

Aye, every woman, child and pensioner who attended is a cunt according to lil' Chris.

And every one of the undoubted thousands who have served their country who attended is a cunt aswell.

I wonder why a failed, gobby scrote from Shields thinks he is qualified to judge?

Glory hunter, sold his ticket on for the unfashionable games in the two years he had a part share. Never seen since.

The wife always calls me a cunt anyway but regardless, here's my view of how today panned out.....

A warm day and a crowd with next to no expectations aside from wanting Newcastle to have a good go greeted the teams entering the pitch although the old spice theme tune that used to be played back in the days of Shearer has seen it moved back to the entrance music. It doing full circle after it disappeared for a few years before being played around kick off time when Rafa came a couple of seasons ago.

I think it added something as the hairs on the back of my neck stood up like they used to and something felt right before a ball was kicked as if our lot were out to prove they did actually want to show their support for Rafa with a performance to match and they didn't disappoint.

The referee was again a weak point as every single West Ham player that dived down so easily was rewarded whilst the reverse went unchallenged seemed to spur the team on as well but our efforts were eventually recognised with the goals that followed to cap off a domination.

I know we were a premier league team playing in the championship last season but this season has suddenly seen us as a side being labelled as a newly promoted one but the evidence of today just proved that as shite with West Ham looking like the side full of lower league players as they were overrun in every department.

Even the goalkeeping department in it's equality aside from us winning 3-0 had Hart as a better distributor and Elliot as a better shot stopper regardless of Hart having the nicer hair with the head and shoulders and all that and Elliot with his hair full of bird shit near the end. The score was all that mattered. Amidst all that, we need a new number 1. Sorry Rob, I know youve said nice things about the area this week but the distribution is costly in this division.

The outfield players were just better individually. Each and every single one of them. We have our favourites that we talk about regularly and i'll mention them but the unspoken ones seemed to shine the most.

Mbemba is no left back but was immense today as if he was playing for his future.

Clark and Lascelles were excellent. Lascelles missed nowt and was a good leader but Clark added to a similar shift by clearing one off the line and scoring a good goal off the post.

Manquillo. Where do you start? He's the Mackem reject or the Liverpool player that was bought on the back of dodgy videos but he was excellent today. His engine was fantastic as he was up and down the pitch countless times. He bombed on in the overlap, time and time again with little to no reward but he never gave up. What he lacked in ability, he made up for in effort. I reckon Rafa would be having kittens watching his game but he's a Keegan type of player in that attack comes before defence. Lessons need learning here but today, it mattered not one jot.

Hayden was efficient with his usual game being seen to by the medical trainer as he always seems to take a knock as he gets stuck in.

Atsu and Ritchie. Both had their moments as they never gave up by running through the whole game. Atsu had a quiet patch in the first half before coming to life in the 2nd half and Ritchie seemed to be standing too compact for me for the first chunk of the 2nd half as West Ham seemed to gain an extra man on the back of his positioning before it was sorted and the game won.

Merino. In what little time we've seen of him, it's easy to see the potential. It's how it's managed now in dictating his career. He has world class potential and I dont say that lightly. I say it because his brain is similar to Hatem Ben Arfa in that he looks like he can see a move before it comes to fruition and most of our success today came off our other players being in tune with the what he was playing.

Quick of feet and fast on the move, he's a player in the middle im struggling to see a comparison with that we've had before in the last 30 years or so. I know it's just one game but he's done it once so the potential to do it again is there again. Merino covered more distance on the pitch than anyone by a good kilometre. That's statistically proven as well. My man of the match by an absolute mile.

Perez can only be described as lightweight. Yes he had a good enough game but add a stone or two of muscle and he would be catapulted into the next level. He's lots to learn still but he did alright.

Joselu was just Imre Varadi reincarnated for me today. A hard worker who seemed to win nearly every flick on. A few were wasted but most got us off on a good move and like Varadi, he looks like he needs a good link man. Varadi eventually got Keegan and the rest is history.

Atmosphere from Newcastle was good again with the Leazes seeming to join in late on but as like Spurs, little to no noise came from the away lot so we must be doing alright.

Ive always rated Gayle but he may not be more than a decent impact player in the premier league, if not him then a similar type player would be excellent with Joselu.

Rafa is unlikely to make the switch unless it's the last breath of a game.

It's not the owner who chooses the formation though ry.

I doubt we will see two up front.

I thought Hayden was excellent today and seems to be constantly improving. Ritchie did have a strong game but he left Manquillo in the shit a good few times by being drawn into the centre and them breaking on the wing. Merino - really exciting - looks like anothet potential Alonso so you can see why Benitez likes him, for 21 just makes you think the player he could become. Totally understand why Rafa wants a new keeper for distribution sake. Think it's really interesting seeing the difference in Perez when he plays with Joselu and Mitro compared with when he starts with Gayle. Gayle should be third choice imo. Think Lascelles looks much sharper and quicker so maybe that injury was really affecting him last season. I love Mbemba and would lbe gutted if he left - did pretty well out of position against a West Ham's best player. They were utterly shite but that was partly because our lot played well.

The match report in the times gives Mbemba 6/10 which i find harsh thought he was at least 8 it also gave Hart 7/10 so i think they were watching a different game. Also stated that our average age was 24 which is encouraging

A decent effort today against a very very poor West Ham side. Merino looks like the next big payday for Ashley.
