NUFC v Spurs
13 August 2017 10:00 Post ID: #482186
On a weekend filled with goals and more than a few surprises, the media's darlings enter the fold.

Small fry in description on one hand, in the next we're the club that everyone talks about whether that be to force feed the made up expectation level or to big us up when a scandal emerges.

To say that the 'experts' out there will want us to lose is an understatement because Spurs belong in the protected zone that a settled top 4 gives their views. Anything but a win for them will be a blip or an off day regardless of our performance in their eyes so it's us against the world.

We may be different to other years where the quality is lower on an individual basis but in relation to set up or team play, we're the strongest we've been in years with the most important task of everyone knowing what job they have to do and they will.

A crowd fully behind the manager and the team for the first time in ages sees an unpredictable future ahead and it may shock the premier league to it's core. Regardless of future battles ahead with Mike Ashley, this really has the feel of a new chapter.

Hopefully the players have read the script today.

My predicted XI which will no doubt be wrong.

Elliot
Manquillo, Clark, Lejeune, Dummett
Ritchie, Shelvey, Hayden, Murphy
Perez
Gayle

Atsu has an eye for goal, so think he will get some game time today.

Also think Merino will get some playing time.

Hate the premier league, England golden boy Harry Kane goes clattering through the back of Lejeune with a twatful scissor tackle ending his afternoon and putting him out for fuck knows how long - yellow card.
Other England golden boy Dele Ali get his ankle trod on, no real danger of injury, straight red.

Full of puffs and conmen.

You cant really start to assess this game without mentioning the Shelvey incident because it ruined the game.

A game where the plan was working with us allowing them the ball with counter attack being the main ambition. We never looked like conceding.

Spurs got away with niggly fouls the whole game and for some of their players, especially Alli to get away with the antics, it was yet more shite refereeing that led to the sending off.

Lascelles made an excellent tackle on Alli in the first half which caused the pat a cake king to react. The result being a telling off for both players when Alli should have been booked. Another occasion, it may have been a tackle from Ritchie, he dived down again before rolling around.

When nowt was done, he rolled around again and off the pitch to make the ref take more notice before Ritchie got a yellow when the ball went out of play. Even the Shelvey 'stamp' came around because Alli was rolling around and from where I was it looked like it lacked any real momentum or was accidental and certainly wouldn't have hurt. In fact it was 10% of the Kane tackle from behind on Lejeune.

On another day and without the injuries, we know we're light all over the pitch but I feel like it's a chance lost. There was options on the bench to change the game plan later on but for a mix of a ref allowing the shenanigans and Shelvey's challenge, we've came away with nowt but massive credit for the big display of team spirit there was on offer.

If that was a Pardew team then we'd have been done 6 or 7.

Special mention to Moussa Sissoko for being on the receiving end of his old song with the words changed. Nobody wants Siss-o-ko....he's tragic, you know

Well it's clear that Newcastle are shit. They'll be even worse without Shelvey. People who are discussing whether it was deliberate or not are just much wankers as those in the ground. He could've walked away like anyone with half a brain would. But no, he 'stepped' on him petulantly. We all know Alli is a soft tosser and I'm sure the messiah knew that too. #rafalution

We did alright yesterday, we turned up and huffed and puffed but stuck to the script and rolled over in the end for the better side. Shelvey is not the sharpest tool in the box to fall for Ali's antics, but he is not the first and will not be the last.

Sadly we turned up yesterday with a team of lads not one of whom is good enough for Spuds bench. I guess the result was therefore predictable.

For me we have a worse squad than the one which was relegated, albeit with a better man in charge (for the moment). Gonna be a long season.

Spuds are one of the better sides in the league - with one utter cheating cunt who spent ALL game winding players up; and one who plays for England who was a fucking disgrace with his cattling challenge.

With another striker of any decent level - we'll be fine.

I think you will find both of the players you refer to play for England cuck. As an aside what did you think of Bellamy when he played for us, or was that before your time?

Cant disagree with this.

We were comfortable yesterday with the scope to change. I actually thought that we would allow them to keep the ball like we did for around 70 minutes or so before changing it to incorporate the likes of Jacob Murphy and maybe Rolando Aarons. Maybe even a cameo for Mitrovic to try to boost his career with nicking a goal.

On another day, yesterday was one of those games that had the home side winning 1-0 written all over it.

Lots of knicker-wetting about DA,then again knicker-wetting seems to be your party trick.

The team played to their strengths, compact with lots of hard work.

Obviously Shelvey did not follow the managers script and they were knackered from the second he walked.

As the season progresses they will struggle as fatigue and injuries take there toll.

It will be interesting to see how they stack up against the likes of Huddersfield,Brighton etc and what tactics Benitez will use, especially at home against the teams himself and Ashley have groomed the support base into believing are our natural rivals.

I have a feeling it's not going to be pretty.

I thought we did ok, it was an obvious plan to be tight as others have said and you could see the side were very well drilled . Two bad injuries and a sending off lost the game rather than Spurs having to win it. Well organized sides with tactically astute managers keep teams in this league (Allardyce and Pulis for example). With a fair wind there's enough to stay up which will be enough for Ashley, whether it will be for Benitez is another matter. It's going to be a long season.

Reserve Team Bench
500100100
Right! Whoever said we turned up with a bunch of lads none of whom could make Spuds bench was right. Ashley's comments about his 'wealth' puts everything clearly. He's not doing anything, merely riding it for whatever it will give him, the shit. And yes, he should; sell up and go away.

But, stuck wirh the situation, then a lot will depend on how many point we take from the top six sides. Anybody th8ink more than two?

To misquote one of my favorite latter day writers about our club - turning up for the premiership with this squad is like entering the grand national on a fucking geriatric Scarboro donkey. We are in big trouble and probably in a 5 team scrap for 2 places (16th and 17th). Ashley has this sussed now 'though. He just says you can use the money you earn each year (whatever league we are in) and he keeps hold of his asset until someone comes along with a big enough offer to buy him out. We are stuck with the horrible fat bastard.

Get a striker in of any decent level - and we'll be lower mid-table.

We'll be fine - if only because there are so many other shite teams in the league - but we'll be fine once we add a striker.

Spot on crook, about sums it up.
Haven't seen the game, just the highlights after a day out in the glorious fells with my better half & several pints in some Cockermouth bar.
So it's bargain basement buys for the foreseeable future then whilst tubby remains & sucks the soul out of the club,it's going to be a long season.
If the little Spaniard can avoid relegation with this current squad it'll be a miracle, that's assuming he'll be here that long.
