Pre season friendlies

I have watched a few pre season friendlies so far this summer and as the season edges ever closer i really fear we will be taken to the cleaners several times. When we play the top 8 teams in the premier we will find out the defence is not good enough, the midfield not creative enough and no firepower up front. Could be difficult to watch unless fatty releases the purse strings a bit............but as he said the club can have every penny it generates. if its the money from sales we are cattled !
Just watched Liverpool play Bayern Munich (both full first teams) and win 3-0, they are on a different plain to us .

but as a footnote, if you like a flutter and are able to bet with your head and not your heart the pain of being shite can be somewhat offset by making a few quid when we play.

If the club can use the money it generates why haven't we spent near 150 million. The Sissoko, Carroll and Gini money would be a start.

He has probably used that bundle to buy stakes in his other business interests. So we can have the money from colback, hanley, gamez and any other papa he can offload. roughly about 5.99 to add to the kitty

League football is a different kettle of fish and we are amongst 10 clubs or so, that are on a par for standard. That's more than enough for Ashley.

I think goalkeeper-wise and defence-wise, we're mid-table.

Midfield, is decent out wide, but lacking in the middle save for baldy. Especially in front of the back four - they've got no protection, Colback is just relegation fodder. We'll create plenty of chances, but will be weak in front of our own goal.

Goal-wise, we've only got Gayle that will reach double-figures. That has to be our main worry.

Pre-season is all about fitness and getting players familiar with a role/style of play, and doesn't feed much into 'real' games.

Agree, I can see us getting turned over by 4 or 5 goals a few times this season.

Without a doubt, our current squad can't hold a candle to the majority of the premier league. The question is, will we get turned over by the likes of Stoke, Palace, Burnley and Watford?

We'll get caned at home by Spurs so we'll need to get something out of Huddersfield. After that, can we beat West Ham?

You still need 40 points to stay in the Premier...

We're running the gauntlet against the top 6 or 7 sides, as far as a spanking is concerned.

After that we're about par with the rest of the mid-table crowd; but chronically short of goals.
