RIP Cheick Tiote.
05 June 2017 15:53 Post ID: #480215
Saw a rumour earlier that he had died but it's either a sick joke or it's gathering pace that he had a heart attack in training. I guess we'll find out soon.

For me, was a quality player until Pardew said he had a word about his yellow cards. Didn't seem to be the same since.

Great player alongside Cabaye. Ruined by Pardew and never really got back to the way he was. He'll always be remembered for THAT goal. Just a shame the one against Citeh didn't stand either.

Sad news by all accounts.

Something needs to be looked in to the training methods of these players though. There's been so many with heart problems of late. Many of which being African if memory serves me right.

True, very sad news. Agree with what's been said about the impact pardew had on him - sanitised his game and he never got back to his former best.

RIP Cheick, as well as the memorable Arsenal goal I'll always remember him bullying Man Utd all over the pitch in a 3-0 home victory, terribly sad news.

Sad news, RIP Cheick. I celebrated your goal against Arsenal and for a moment the disallowed effort against Man City. I ranted at you for being sent off against the Mackems with your reckless challenge on Fletcher which probably cost us 2 points but you could always be counted on for effort. You will be missed.

Shattering news, for a young and fit guy like that to be running around training only to drop dead is dreadful. Loved him as a player, gave us some real steel in the middle and he linked up really well with Cabaye. You only have to read the tributes that have come out to know that he was both loved and respected as a person and as a player

RIP Cheick

Sad & tragic news for someone so young.
My heart goes out to his wife expecting their 3rd bairn this week & his family.
He'll not be forgotten on Tyneside.

Gutted when I heard the sad news, and not only because he was one of ours.Probably the best defensive midfield player we have had.As mentioned above I too remember the way he took control almost single handed in the 3-0 win over ManUre,their midfield never got a look in and Tiote must of covered every blade of grass at least twice in that game.A true well liked and respected gent by all accounts,my thoughts are with his family.

Wasn't he classed as a bad apple in the dressing room after a while? Let's not get all misty eyed over it. He was shit for the vast majority of his time here.

There's even petitions to have his number retired etc. Absolute madness.

Sad end to a man's life but let's not make out he was some sort of hero. The majority wanted him gone for the past 3 years.

I also don't agree with this shirt number retiring lark for many reasons. Mainly because it's disrespectful to all other players that have passed and their number still being in use plus Tiote wasn't our player anymore. He left without much of a fanfare and relief by some that a few grand a week had been freed up.

Exactly, not a word was said when he left. The reason? He was shit!

Nobody at any age deserves this to happen to them but it's no different to Jon Dahl Tomasson or Silvio Maric to leaving and passing on. Had moments, but that's it.

Quite frankly, he was a complete liability as a footballer.
