As Promotion Gets Closer....
22 April 2017 16:10 Post ID: #479177
Not going to do one of those daft 'live' threads where the egg is left on the face even though Huddersfield are 4-1 down at home to Fulham and Reading losing 3-0 at Forest. A scenario that would see us achieve promotion with a win on Monday or Tuesday if we dont win but then Huddersfield lose at Wolves.

Aside from this Carlsberg set of results just setting us up nicely, it has left me thinking of something.

I cant remember ever seeing us achieve something at St James'. Something that a final whistle actually means officially done.

We achieved promotion the last time by a result going for us ahead of the Sheff Utd home game to make it a damp squib and the title away to Plymouth. Before that it was the Keegan years and Grimsby away.

Keegan's playing days saw it done at Huddersfield in 1984 and 1965 was before I was born so dont recollect that.

Could be the first time in more than 50 years unless im corrected and a moment that may see unscripted things happen.

Reading pull one back but the play offs are getting edgy for some. Leeds are out as things stand but if they take the lead then Huddersfield will only be in by 2 points and may yet miss out.

Fulham have been the best team by the proverbial 'country mile' at SJP this season. They will walk the play offs

You would think so but every year sees a surprise and they may not make it yet although the final game of the season at Sheff Wed will be a strange one as they could face either other again soon after.

So. A win on Monday then, takes us back up.

At SJP.

Should be a belter of an atmosphere.

I'm sure it was just last Monday the Huddersfield supporters were singing:
'Newcastle Utd we're coming for you'

It was and just the Friday before when the Leeds fans celebrated like they'd won the Champions League. Now either could miss the play offs.

Have we ever been promoted before, at the same time as the SMB's and the wannabe rivals have gone down together?

The way we've been screwed over by the officials in this league in nearly every single game, I wouldn't be surprised if we win on Monday but because some fans will get on the pitch, we'd be docked 10 points and then miss out on the play offs.

Qualifying for the champions league for 2nd in premiership with a 5-0 thumping of Forest. Same day SMB's and Boro were relegated. Bit more of an achievement then 2nd in the championship I would say. 11 May 1997.
