Aye.....I purposely didn't ask that question Keggy

Fair enough Mac I'll answer it directly, with a fair wind 5th in the league within 5 years is achievable yes . Though I think European qualification via a cup within that timescale is more likely. (Cue Benitez walking the morra)

Well, I waited on the sidelines for a season to see what happened.

He stayed the entire season.

He did his job and took the club up as soon as was humanly possible. Yes, the football was not attractive but, ultimately, it was effective.

Yes he's been an effective smokescreen for that tub of lard who owns the club AND it should have been pitchforks and torches at the end of last season. Probably just as well as if ever Ashley was burned at the stake it would take two weeks to put the fire out.

Will he stay? No idea. Because as is always the case, it comes down to fat Mike. So back to sitting and waiting, until that fat shite sells up.

Toony makes a good point. Any billionaire hasn't got to where they are without being morally flexible. If your stance is to rail against any corporate greed and corruption then good on you - but don't do it in a way that ignore the fact that you're sucking off Babylon' s teat as much as anyone if you're not off the grid and living an alternative lifestyle. By all means make honourable points about Ashley being a cunt and anyone who's worked for him is part of his big industrial profit driven juggernaut - but don't be hypocritical about it - you own Apple, Samsung, Nike? Are a customer of Citibank, hsbc, Lloyds? Bet online? If you do then you're as immersed in it as anyone. If your point is you hate Ashley, the fair enough, but don't muddy the waters by casting aspersions by labelling anyone who works for or buys from billionaires as being somehow morally compromised.

I've admired the fortitude of those posters that stood their ground whilst the baying pack(aye it wasn't just one poster) were calling them gutless spineless cunts.

Although I completely disagree with their thoughts, mainly the claim that Ashley is irrelevant, they are consistent.

Those that use fake moral arguments or hide behind the latest puppet manager in an attempt to justify their vigorous licking of mike's rim on the other hand......

Ashley and Rafa meeting as we speak at the training ground. What's said in the talks isn't really that important, it's whether they leave Rafa happy and the stuff is followed through with.

Speaking after the meeting, Mike Ashley said: “I’ve confirmed to Rafa and Lee that they can have every last penny that the club generates through promotion, player sales and other means in order to build for next season.”

Didn't Shearer say something similar happened with him then they never rang him again ?

It's positive but Mike Ashley has been proven in a court of law to be a liar .

Even the most fierce rival to Ashley cant say this isn't significant and is on a much larger scale than before if he's lying.

With the recent history Ashley has had, he'd be daft not to embrace change. Just hope we have a decent future instead of the negativity or us being run like a circus for a bit.

On the whole it's a positive sure but it's not lying on a larger scale than before. He's a compulsive fucking rat liar and anybody who takes what he says at face value needs their bumps checking. If he's so trustworthy why's a contracted manager forced in the two summer's he's been here into having to reaffirm his position?

For those that have forgotten :

"I am now a dad who can't take his kids to a football game on a Saturday because I am advised that we would be assaulted"

"We gave no formal advice to Mr Ashley about not attending Saturday's game. It is not our place to do so."
- Northumbria Police

"We have started talking about who we will be bringing in and Kevin will have the final say"

The Club repeatedly stated that Mr Keegan did not have the final say but in the letter dated 4 September 2008 from Mr Llambias to Mr Keegan setting out the Club’s proposals for trying to dissuade Mr Keegan from resigning, Mr Llambias stated:-
“It will continue to be the position that no player will be bought for the first team without your approval, save of course for commercial deals (which we refer to as financials) which will remain within the sole discretion of the Board”.
-INDEPENDENT ARBITRATION (KEEGAN vs NUFC)

"Players like Andy are the future of this club"

The Board and supporters are aware that Newcastle United currently has a footballing academy brimming with talent, skill and dedication. As part of Newcastle United's quest for a team that truly represents the values of the Geordie nation the club will look to promote, where it can, from within and for the academy to become a leading light as one of the best if not the best in the UK. The days when players such as Alan Shearer, Steve Bruce, Peter Beardsley and Michael Carrick had to leave Newcastle to begin their illustrious football careers elsewhere are over. Newcastle United is more than aware of the great passion for the game of football that exists locally and is intent on ensuring that every great Geordie footballer has the opportunity to play for his home team club.

"Andy Carroll has completed his move from Newcastle to Liverpool and has signed a five-and-a-half-year-deal,"

"The one thing I said to Mike yesterday was, 'Look, if this boy is going to go, this money has to be reinvested in the team, all of it', and he has assured me of that. For the Newcastle fan, that is the most important message I can give today, that all that money will be used.

"Chris is our manager and will remain our manager, and it is our intention to re-negotiate his contract at the end of the year"
-October - 11th position

"Newcastle United Football Club have today parted company with manager Chris Hughton. The board feels that an individual with more managerial experience is needed to take the club forward."
-December - 11th position

Bringing Alan Shearer back to Newcastle United was the best decision I have made. Alan and his staff did all they could to try and keep us up in the short space of time they had. Talks are now ongoing between us about how we can take this Club forward again.

"We want him to be the manager 110 per cent, he's very good at what he does, and he's a straight talking guy – we like that. He'd be the perfect appointment."

"Do I care what Alan Shearer has to say? When he ran this football club we were relegated after picking up just five points from his eight games in charge."

Oh to the contrary Keggy, I dont think for one minute that Ashley has had a personality bypass or has changed direction in ambition.

I do believe though that he's had his 3 ghosts of Xmas moment where he's seen his business and the club go to shit in a short space of time and he's taking advantage of the moment to get himself back on his feet.

Im as sceptic as anyone mind and even regarding the statement where Ashley says that he's promised every penny available for funds may just literally mean that.

Legally, there's no way round that.

I always thought that the Sky TV money was paid at the end of the season so that being the case we won't get our hands on the loot until this time next year. As we've probably made a loss this year and the Sissoko deal is over 5 years and the Wijnaldum probably at least three you have to ask yourself what moneys available to spend. A few bob season ticket money and a new sponsorship deal but that's not going to be a fortune. As for player sales the players we can afford to lose from the squad are worth jack shit

What has happened to the Sissoko and Wynaldum money????

We're getting the Sissoko cash in instalments of around £5m a year and im not sure about Gini but it's obvious that the cash will be used to keep the turnover right when the income dropped this season.

If Rafa keeps us going year on year in the premier then soon there'll be far too much money to hide. They'd have to extend the ground just for that.

My guess is that this is a leak from one of Rafa's people in order to hurry things up. Still a few too many holes in the media stories.

I liked the one in The Mirror where Chelsea told Tammy Abraham not to pick us because we are a party capital. Aye, the London based team.

On a day where rumours that Rafa had walked were more than usual, news coming out of last night's fan forum seems to suggest that things are rosey in the garden with things picking up in the next few days.

Dont know if that means bigger tellys in the concourses at the ground, new locks for the bog doors or that business does really start on July 1st for us, time will tell.

But the frustrating thing for me is , according to the club and various media sources we have this warchest, yet the priority at the moment appears to be getting someone in on loan !

Some of the players fees and figures being bandied around puts our 70 million in perspective.
Average players for us it is then, as those see to be in the 10mil bracket.

I still say it's because Ashley wants the books to look healthier than they would look if the cash was spent in a different financial period.

This last year, July 1st 2016 - today will be lucky to be break even, never mind making transfer profits. If a lump was spent then the loss could potentially scare buyers off.

From tomorrow, nothing changes in reality as what there is to spend, just that on paper it looks better for the club. That's what I reckon anyway and I dont think Ashley will sell his gold mine.

One hole in the theory is the fact that Rafa is annoyed. There's too many seemingly genuine people saying so on top of the paper rumours and the fact it's been very quiet with no denials from anywhere just adds to it.

If it was a simple case of balancing the accounts then deals could have been agreed in principle and announced without upsetting the momentum built up or indeed Rafa. With this not happening it makes you second guess that it's Ashley just delaying again for absolutely no gain whatsoever.

A bloke that gambles with the club's future but wont allow a gamble on the footballing side of things to try to achieve anything.

Said all along Ashley would engineer a fallout with Benitez in the summer and I'll still be shocked if that doesn't happen and Benitez walks. The man is simply not interested in competing on the football field.
