Interesting that Benitez said that he's been told that he doesn't need to sell anyone if he doesn't want to plus there's a big transfer kitty.

I would think there are a few he would like to off-load. Then of course we have the players who think they can hold their own in the Champions League. The idea of playing on a rainy Friday evening to them may not look inviting when it's windy and cold. If Rafa has identified targets then I would expect some to leave.

There's no mileage in keeping unhappy players though and a lot of the ones that want away will be the big name shithouses from last season so can't say I'm sorry to see them go. I expect Wijnaldum and Janmaat to be straight off. The interesting one is Sissoko, he in the past has shown he thinks he should be at a Champions League club but Rafa got a tune out of him in those last few games and seemed to see him as a key player . I expect him to want to go and Rafa to want to keep him . Could be the first key battle right there .

The captaincy may tempt Sissoko and if he can be sold the vision by Rafa.

Personally I can see them all want to stay although ive got an inkling that Shelvey will be one of those shipped out.

Aye, Rafa doesn't seem to rate Shelvey. I think he'd be great alongside a more mobile midfielder. We shall see.

He'd have taken the Man Utd gig if they'd been brave enough to offer it to him; instead he has the absolute win-win situation.

Most likely - spend wisely, offload a load of shite, and utterly smash the Championship next season. To be fair that's almost a given, there's plenty of players there who will only get better.

Alternatively - get exposed as a luxury manager by having to motivate a team of squids into being competitive for 40+ games a season when the opposition is desperate to win every single time.

Still, a few million in the bank, easy commute from Merseyside too.

A lot will depend on who he wants in. I think Keggy highlights Sissoko's future here. That boy has a ticket on himself. He thinks he should be rubbing shoulders with the big boys and Rafa rates him. If he stays and gets the belief thing going, he could be a key player. However, if ever there was a player who, once his head went down that was it, then it's Sissoko. I think his retention is a gamble, personally.

I think Rafa sees Shelvey as one of those typically British players: all engine and little vision. However, in the Championship, players like that make major contributions to promotion. I hope Benitez appraises his potential contribution. I also think that Wijnaldum and Janmaat will push to leave. Frankly, when that happens, all you can hope for is your money back for reinvestment.

Oh look! We're talking about football. Now there's a thing.

He's certainly making the right noises. Good to hear about the training ground too. Do we have Class 1 status or was it revoked?

If we can build a proper academy it can only bode well for the future.

Some of the stuff mentioned is common sense really but it's good that it sounds as if things are being sorted out now. Cant even believe some of the basics weren't here like the 4G pitch and whatever equipment is needed.

This tournament they mention is also an obvious yet brilliant thing to do because it not only allows the kids to catch the eye at an early age but it will increase the excitement amongst them and maybe make them want to be part of the future generation. Generations that we've been saying that are being lost.

I've said for years we don't tap into the vast mine of north east talent we have here. We're the club who looked at a young Shearer and played him in goal.

It is common sense but other managers failed to sort it out. Charnley will learn a lot as MD from an experienced man like Benitez. He'll be a far better MD for the ecperience. It's like copping off with the best looking lass in the school.

Good to see that some of the changes that Rafa wants are being done and here is some evidence of that.

However, it's not clear which pictures are before the work and which are after........

Another story today that follows on from the Tim Krul transfer story in that Shelvey is wanted by Crystal Palace.

So far, that makes it Sissoko, Wijnaldum, Tiote, Krul, Shelvey, Coloccini, Janmaat. De Jong, Mbemba, Townsend, Cisse, Cabella and Thauvin who are definitely away because they've spoken to agents, Aunties, Grannys or whoever, to say so. That's before you factor in the supposed fact that Rafa has final say.

What a crock of shite.

Rafa apparently turned up for the last hour of the fans forum tonight and spoke very well as per usual. Not shying away from anything.

A million miles from other 'get togethers' in the past.

With the minutes not expected until tomorrow I think, a little bit of what's coming has been announced.

One thing is the scrapping of the membership scheme for away tickets, instead it's going to be like it used to be where season ticket holders etc have priority before they go on public sale.

Feet on the ground and all that still but an amazing fact has emerged on Twatter.

In the 18 games we've played under Rafa, we've never lost a second half. This is a million miles away from the complete dross we had before him when the likes of Pardew would single handedly lose us the next half with the team talk.

The stats. (all second halfs with our score first)

Leicester away 0-0
Mackems home 1-0
Norwich away 2-2
Southampton away 1-1
Swansea home 2-0
Man City home 0-0
Liverpool away 2-0
Crystal Palace home 1-0
Aston Villa away 0-0
Spurs home 3-1
Fulham away 0-0
Huddersfield home 1-1
Reading home 3-0
Bristol City away 0-0
Cheltenham home 1-0
Brighton home 1-0
Derby away 1-0
QPR away 4-0

Obviously this will bring around the kiss of death now........

Knew I shouldn't have posted that stat last week....

Anyway, some excellent quotes from Rafa in his presser today.

We need to be United, like the name of the team. We need the fans to stick with the team.

Do we want to be the head of the mouse or the tail of the lion?
