It wasn't PM but the source was spot on.

Ashley's helicopter has also been spotted in the toon which makes you think he may try to get in on the press conference.

Plus Benitez has been promised a big transfer budget and anything he makes from sales.

Might run down the helipad and throw some rocks about...

He'll need a hell of a budget to recruit a new squad after he's got rid of the useless feckers.

I'd say there's about 8 players id keep, the rest are worth money (Sissoko, winjaldum) or shite (dummett,Anita,Taylor) or poison (Colo)

Well that's good to know. Now so long as some little round pillock doesn't get in the way things might start to look up. Time to start considering who may end up here as part of the promotion push.

No. Not in writing anyway and that is the major difference.

Ashley is just basically clueless but will have been advised that his best chance here to succeed at all levels including the one that he's most interested in (The cash), whilst keeping the peace, is Rafa.

This is monumental really.

Yep, no way Benitez would accept unless the contract was watertight, a remarkable turnaround after 9 years from the fat mess. I'm naturally still suspicious

I think we all are but if the contracts are watertight and the club does what they did to Keegan then by the time the dust settles, Ashley and co will have no other option but to ship out.

Even the bid being made by the manager and then the later conference call to hoy in a lower bid will bring all the walls down. Personally I think all other options are exhausted and it will be done properly.

This is the best compromise we'll ever be offered aside an Ashley sale and an unproven owner coming in. It has to be seen as a positive and moreso with the experience we have as suspicious fans.

One thing the last 9 years has taught us under this cunt is that if anything good does happen, which has been rare, then something bad happens a season later. If we do gain promotion and everything goes to plan then expect a monumental fuck up next season. After what he's put us through it will take YEARS for any belief or trust to comeback. That said, he's done what we want and I'm going to try and enjoy the next 12 months, a rare treat for a Newcastle supporter, enjoyment.

Superb news. It's certainly a paradigm shift from the last 9yrs of mismanagement. Whether it represents a complete turnaround from Ashley remains to be seen. No evidence to support this but it makes me think that a sale could be in the middle distance. Hoy money at Rafa to stay and ease the pressure , he gets Newcastle United back up and stabilizes us as a Premier League team makes us an easier more profitable sell. Of course whatever the intentions the fatman is protecting his investment and if we don't go up I doubt Rafa will be here this time next summer.

When we've had the likes of Pardew, Carver and McClaren working under the conditions they were, we were always destined for fails in some areas.

Now all the ingredients should be there for the return of something that's been lost, some of us thought forever. That being hope.

Ashley should just be consigned to the background and forgot about. If he leaves Rafa to get on, then it's a scenario that most of us will take.

Couldn't disagree more . NEVER forget what Ashley's done, always have it in mind. Proven liar in a court of law and raped this club for years . One swallow doesn't make a summer.

I never said forget what Ashley has done mate and why would I, I just said he should be put to one side and forgotten that he owns us. Sitting here dwelling on about what has been done has brought me no happiness and I don't intend to.

I know in life a murderer is a murderer, even when they've done their time but they still get the chance to rehabilitate. Ashley becoming the invisible man here doesn't mean he even gets that chance but it's not about him. It's about how I enjoy supporting the club.

If it makes talking about the club more bearable then im on board but at the end of the day, people can do and think what they want. Today is a good day for once.

Welcome news and about time.
It will not be easy getting out of The Championship, teams will treat a game against us as a cup final and up their game.
Don't set your sights too high, just getting promotion is enough.
Some interesting ins and outs can be expected with Rafa sorting it out at all levels.

Agreed, tough ask even with Rafa, will have to fight every game and we'll be a target, odds on favourite, but if anyone can get that mentality installed it's Benitez. Be interesting to see what a proper manager can do with the club at all levels, from youth to seniors. A hell of a task after years of mismanagement.

Aye can just see it now, Raf gets promotion, steadies the ship and brings back to a degree some respect to the club and Ashley sacks him for someone like O' Leary to "take us to the next level".

Have to agree a good day for the club in getting Rafa to stay

From the same source lads....

First singings are Messi, Ronaldo, Iniesta and AN Other.

Seriously though, characters, and personalities are the requirement for the dressing room, with the ability to put a foot in, scrap, and get out of the division first time.

Those required have already been identified, and with the news of a early return for pre-season for the coaches etc..., think plans are well advanced to get them in.

Good day in my opinion, as he has the character, experience and coaches he brings to actually do something.

The mackems are spewing around here, all I remind them is Fat Sham has not won a European Champions League, and they shut the fuck up instantly...

We could've done a lot worse than getting Barton back. Not that Ashley would allow anyone so honest at the club.

Here's hoping recruitment starts instantly so gives the players time to gel. Something that hasn't happened for many a year despite concerns from each and every one of us. Finally, the pillocks might be able to get things right with Benitez in charge. Funny how the club looks in better shape when left to professionals. Almost instantly as those muppets step back.

It has been a bloody awful 9 years. It'll take 9 years of consistent effort and a 'do it right' attitude from the club to change my mind about Ashley. Wonga on the shirt and the millions of free advertising for his tat continue to be crimes against club, fans and the region. No doubt they won't change in a hurry.

However, this is a first baby step in the right direction on the pitch. Let us hope it continues.
