What I would say is we would be fucking mad to mess this up, best opportunity we've had for years to make progress, but if anyone can fuck this up it's Mike Ashley. One thing going for us is that we're currently the only 'big club' option for Benitez in this country and he obviously wants to work here where his family are. That may just persuade him to commit long term if Ashley shows ambition.

Already heard him say to Sissoko twice "C'mon pick it up" he's also had Marveaux heavily involved from what I could make out .

It's a chance we've got to grasp with both hands because getting managers like Benitez doesn't happen very often to unsuccessful clubs like ours.

I've been on the wagon for 2 weeks, may have to fall off it tonight now, that's typical Newcastle that, getting carried away, but Christ it's the first time I've felt any positivity towards the club for years, fucking years.

Ashley has ripped the soul of out of this club and is the sole reason we've had fuck all to look forward to on a Saturday for almost a decade.

However, the last 2 transfer windows and this appointment are a huge step in the right direction.

We know he's doing it to protect his asset but we're all happy for him to make money but not at the expense of playing shit footy.

A long way to go but like I say a step in the right direction

Not that it's gonna cost anything in cash as im hoping me brother in law gets them through his work but if the club can offer a hand out in trying to light a spark that's lost inside me with the news over this, then the least I can do is act on it.

On saying all this, everyone will be wanting tickets that you couldn't give away last week, so it may be a bar job.

As for the bigger picture, i'll never get another season ticket again ever and as for paying on an individual basis, there's a long way to go to convince me on that front but things like this appointment show that anything is possible, regardless of our thoughts towards the real intentions.

What the fuck would I want to buy a shit top for? Also, where have I joined the Ashley fan club?

I feel no disgrace in accepting something that i get offered all the time and that is a company paid ticket. One that I haven't even been offered, just one that I fancy taking up for a change, if so.

I also feel no disgrace for wanting to enjoy what very little enjoyment we get out of life choice in football club.

Like it or not, Ive lived in the city for 40 odd years and being carried along on the good days is not one to be sniffed at. I may have changed me mind come Monday night, in fact im expecting it.

Until then, it's happy days.

Feck me Mark you are a freeloader and a half, you abused the disabled concession allowance for long enough when everyone else was paying their way to watch games.
Now you want free company tickets? go for it just make sure you have your brand new WONGA top on as you stroll the concourse.
I'll stick with my original 2009 quote that I'll never set foot back in that ground as long as Ashley owns it.

It seems that this remarkable change of direction in attracting a manager of a quality that has not been seen during Ashley's reign is because of impending relegation. It will take someone of Benitez's ability to even try to stave off what looks inevitable. Had we been 5 or 6 points better off would it have happened? Not a chance, it would have been same old, same old, happy days for the owner.
The forced changes could mean a different outlook, a change of everything that was the 'Ashley blueprint'. Lots will buy into it, lots will be apprehensive, and for lots, it is too late.

I think Ashley is a fat prick and haven't set foot inside the ground since 2010, however this is the most excited I have been about NUFC in years. No doubt it will end in tears and go tits up but I'm enjoying tonight regardless this is some appointment regardless of motive. And as someone else has already said if it goes wrong it still costs the fat parasite so win win.

I nip out for a couple of hours... And they actually land Benitez. And, have I understood this right, he's bringing his team with him and the junk are out?
Hang on though. The get out clause works for both the club and Benitez... So, he keeps them up... aaannnd... Ashley bunks him out and goes for the cheap option again. Sorry - best part of 9 years that bugger's been pissing me off. I'll wait and see. This time next season, well placed, Ashley has spent on Benitez's judicious choices - I might start to get my hopes up.

Ashley - Like Saul of Tarsus on the road to Damascus... Hmmm. We'll see.

As I said before, Im not getting involved with the whole attendance thing because there is no winner. Nobody is right on a moral level, it's only ever been about what makes an individual happy.

The same thing applies with politics, the choice of food you buy, heck even the type of music you listen to. We're all different and no-one is a cunt for being so.

We've been run into the ground and had every ounce of support drained out of us with us quick to jump on the club's back at the very slightest bit of negativity. We do not credit and always wonder what the hidden intentions are. Sometimes though, through mistake or eventually working out the right path, the club must be allowed to want to win us round.

Whether we act on it is again personal choice. We're supposed to be supporters of the club after all.

As it stands though, I haven't got a ticket, don't look likely to get one unless one comes up trumps but for the first time in ages, I'll gladly have one for the mackem game.

I bet it's the same for many other people, if not thousands. If it's a ploy by the club to win the feeling of the fans then who's the loser?

Worst case scenario doesn't come into it because we're fans of the club through thick and thin. We always will be.

Saying nowt more about it now. Point taken.

It'll be a strange Geordie who is not pleasantly surprised or even excited by today's events. But as I say, bide your time. Don't forget

Ashley's initial take over and drinking in the Bigg market

Keegan's second coming and all the sleaze that happened

Absolutely no investment for years and trousering the profits

The state of the stadium plastered with that bloody banner

Wonga on the shirt.

I mean, trust him now? Come on. Give it a year at least.

Big big cue getting him, great record loads of trophies under his belt. Will Ashley give him a decent amount to spend though? I reckon he would need at least 70 million to get several decent players in and start rebuilding. How much will he get though? How much is his salary? How long is the contract for? What lies has Ashley spun to entice him into the Club? Ashley has lost a small fortune paying off sacked managers Rafa is the ninth or tenth one. The promises must have been huge, hopefully Rafa got them all in writing or knowing Ashley in blood.

Feeling a little giddy today aren't you, TNMW?! Haha. Lest we forget that it's still the same dross players, no defence and zero strikers. It has also been said several times that no manager could succeed under this bunch of cunts. However, I do have higher hope than McClaren.

"Giddy" good word O.M.Think all of us are in some shape or form.
Regardless of what unfolds over the next 10 games,we've all at some stage been passionately in love with Newcastle United.
Couple of weeks ago I lost my swimming goggles & found myself outside fatties shop in the metro centre & nearly succumbed to goin in & buying a pair rather than paying £10 at the baths,I didn't,that was my choice.
If Toon want's to go & watch the derby next week then that's his choice, there's no right or wrong in all of this.I'd love to take my grandbairns to a game under the floodlights but can't whilst fatty pulls the strings.
However both my kids were buzzin earlier, the youngest is in the other side of the world heading towards the Himalayas,we are what we are after today. "Giddy".

Same here. A little bit of spark reignited but reality is always there. Do I give a shit if im mocked? Do I fuck.

Those that say days like today haven't stirred something inside are fooling themselves. Nobody has said let's end the hostilities towards Ashley, nobody has said that anything is forgiven, just a brief period of enjoying something good to happen to us for once.

May as well jack this in, if we want to become an anti-Newcastle site.

Ive not had much mate and I never said it was, I just said we may as well jack this place in if we want to become anti-Newcastle by having digs that are wide of the mark.

The fact that everyone is boosted by today's news on every site, every piece of social media and the fact that people in the street are talking about the football again for the first time in years and we're supposed to go on as if it's no big deal or people can't change their thought pattern based on a change or are made out that they are in some way 'giddy'

I just render it pointless even debating...

A billionaire with zero ambition on the football front makes an appointment purely designed to protect his interests.

Has any football club ever flourished this way ?

I've said all along that sdu will not be relegated and with ten or so games to go I stick by my prediction.
Ashley will always run this club on the bare minimum.
His hand has been forced but it's obvious this policy has not changed, he's gambling on Benitez performing better than Pardew,Carver and Mclaren with average players, that's all.

Will anyone here bet against him ?

I for one won't be surprised if he pulls it off and pockets another five seasons or more of that lovely free lolly from Sky.

He won't be competing with the likes of Norwich,Stoke etc in the spending stakes will he ?

The bloke is a business genius,he understands the mentality of NUFC fans and their willingness to accept mediocrity, because "that's all we've ever known" right ?

Time will be the proof though PieMag. One thing's certain though, if Rafa gets an £80m kitty every season then 17th wont be what he attains and for Ashley it's a no lose scenario as we've said before.

The spin offs from this are unbelievable in that the interest in the likes of Spain, Europe and the wider football spectrum are increased which in turn could see commercial deals come in, not to mention the chances of European football will increase.

The biggest obstacle is the next 6 weeks on a football level.

On a personal level, we all know the history, we're all sceptics but I just can't see a KeeganGate 2 scenario as it's taken 8 years to get to this stage.

I'm beyond waiting toony.
The wait and see approach is one of his most used and favourite tactics

Ashley has shown time after time zero interest in us, outside of his own selfish gain of course.

His spitefulness is beyond my comprehension, why anyone claiming to love the club would want to be associated with him is a mystery.

I agree the spin offs from any success could be unbelievable, for Ashley and Ashley only though.

The supporters of Liverpool have recently shown the way,a little bit of backbone is all that's needed.

Sadly we as a collective cannot hold a candle to them.
