If you were picking the side what players would you start the game with ?
I am not a fan of this 2 holding midfielders sat in front of the back 4,while this formation may have its advantages at away games it should not be used on home turf.
Having said that I think McClaren will use that formation against The Arse as he will be aware that in general home or away The Arse tend to dominate possession, having said that I think he should use a more cavalier approach and put his emphasis on a more attacking formation, especially seeing as their 2 first choice center backs will be missing due to injury.
For me the starting 11 would be

Krull

Janmaat
M'bemba
Colo
Haidara

Colback

Sissoko
Wijnaldum
De Jong
Thauvin

Mitrovic

I dont think your selection is a million miles away Laz but personally, id find room for Perez. Maybe for de Jong until he's properly up to speed.

Arsenal have two styles of play , their possession based game and the quick counter. If you saw the game against Liverpool in the first half Liverpool's fullbacks were killing them. Then Brentan clearly told them to stay in their own half for the following 45 minutes. If Arsenal play the same again could really suit the way McClaren's had us playing.

Mitrovic starts and you have to play Perez just off him (or even him and Wijnaldum in a 4-3-2-1) . Mertesacker is slower than a one legged dog on tranquilizers. So if he's fit for Arsenal could be the way to get in behind. Colback and Anita haven't quite cut it in the centre so based on the 4-3-2-1 throw Tiote into the mix as well as the three. Should have enough to contain and hope Mitrovic holds the ball up well and the 2 behind him can find space.

Krul
Mbemba , Taylor, Colo, Haidarra

Anita Tiote Colback

Wijnaldum Perez
Mitrovic

If Arsenal score first that fucks the whole plan like but that's football.

Blimey. Almost had forgotten this was a football forum and that football, pure and simple could be discussed.

Okay, just so no one thinks I am supporting Ashley in any way and I am quite content to see the club relegated if it leads to the departure of The Loathed One, here's my take on it. Purely in football terms.

Pretty much Laz's set up but with the addition of Perez for De Jong, as Toonie suggests. I think Mitrovic is going to be a red card risk every game but he looks to lead the attack very positively. That means I'd go with Thauvin as I'd like to see if what he did to Northampton was simply greyhound and bunny stuff. If he and Mitrovic can spark each other off then goals will happen. I'm generally unhappy with Tiote as he's a real card risk, also, I think he's been found out in the Premier. Having said that, I think McClaren will stick to his defensive holding game and look to hit on the counter attack.

I'd start with the same back four as last week, Janmaat seems a bigger liability than Taylor at the moment and Mbemba's pace could well be a better bet. Across the middle I'd have Thauvin, Colback, Wijnaldum and Sissoko with Perez and Mitrovic upfront, get it out wide at pace and have a real fucking go at them from the off, it's the only way to tackle Arsenal, they'll panic, need to let them know from the whistle it's our ground and we dictate the play. Sit back and try anything to over tactical and they'll pass you to death, just steam in from the off.

Seen the Gooners a few weeks ago, again they are having a slow start to the season and are there for the taking. We,as bad as we are took three points, Red Scouse should have also taken three points? They have a few top names out and are missing them, Danny Welbeck and Jack Wheelchair in particular. Hope you do them just to be able to hear Whingers pathetic excuses after the game, which are always a real pleasure.

It's definitely the best chance we've had for a few years.

I would keep the same back four simply because Taylor's game is more suited to play against Giroud more than Colo or Mbemba. Dropping Janmaat might wake the fucker up a bit especially as he's also been dropped from the Dutch squad. If we are playing five in midfield he could also come on wide on the right as he has decent crossing ability and would also be a bit of protection for Mbemba if Walcott or Chamberlain play down our right.

Fuck it I'll give Janmaat one more chance - lets go

Krul

Mbemba Taylor Colo Haidara

Janmaat Perez Wilnaldum Colback Thauvin

Mitrovic

A nice attacking side with Aarons, De Jong, Sissoko and Cisse as attacking options on the bench.

Got to say Janmaat looks a different player compared to last season perhaps he is in the comfort zone, agree with keeping the same back 4 as they done nothing wrong and players should expect to be kept in the team if they play well even if it does mean Taylor starting.
