In a quiet moment at work I decided to look up what it would have cost to put together that Man Utd squad that huffed and puffed against us on Saturday.

There were 2 free agents on the pitch and two on the bench who didn't get on.

After that you have (according to reports)
Hernandez at 8m
Smalling 10m
Dermian 13m
Blind 14m
Schweinsteiger 14m
Valencia 16m
Young 17m (didn't get on the pitch)
Carrick 18m
Schneiderlin 24m
Memphis 25m
Rooney 26m
Shaw (yes really) 27m
Mata 37m

That's before considering 60m Di Maria (20m loss) and 16m Rojo (whoever he is). Fellaini at nearly 28m looks decent value against some of that lot. I could go on, Phil Jones 17m DeGea 19m etc etc etc

They fielded players for which they had paid out almost £250m in transfer fees alone on Saturday and still couldn't score against Newcastle.

I am cancelling my sky subscription and going to watch Crook Town every week. Premiership football is shite.

Football in the premier league, especially here, isn't about spending as much money as possible to get the best possible outcome because of the obscene amount of cash flying around now.

It's all about personal targets.

Ours is to spend enough to survive and pocket the jackpot whilst there is seriously only around 4 teams in this league that target the title and even then, Arsenal try to do that on the minimum they can get away with, which in turn will accumulate massive profits.

It's the equivalent of Formula 1 where the winners are pretty much chosen before the races are won.

The Ashley way of working has got us all quite prudent with spending and the majority of us cant see the point or chance of him spending hundreds of millions chasing trophies when that will incurr wage rises and heavier outlays in future years.

The moral of this whole post is that there is no value in this league and the championship is the place to be for drama.

To be fair ctm, I was not complaining when we were hoying the cash around, and wouldn't be now if we were in the mancs shoes.

& there lies the crux of it.
We have an owner who won't splash the cash, content on buying young players with potential & sell on value if they come good, for profit.
Smacks of a club happy with mediocrity & most fans are buying it.
Tubby needs to hoy a substantial chunk of his 4 billion in to convince the real supporters.then sell up & fuck off.
Meanwhile the Wonga'd ones are content with a decent run in the league cup.
Here come those crumbs again.

I keep hearing that the PL is the best in the world. Funny that because it isn't even the best league in England by a long, long, long shot.

Stacks of cash makes it look good but really, it's not very competitive. There's only a couple of clubs who can really compete for the Premier League. I don't think its much different in Europe generally. Most national leagues are dominated by a tiny number of clubs. Best thing that can happen to football -

(well, no: the best thing that could happen to football would be a mass exodus by the fanbase towards lower sides who they could afford to watch - and fuck the multi-billionaire owned money clubs, but that won't happen because those clubs are followed by global hangers on who are getting the success drug vicariously through a football club they have virtually no chance of seeing - except on tv)

- would be some super Euro league. Global TV shit. All the best players. Staggering sums of money. And the ability for the discerning fan to switch the whole fucking thing off and go and watch their local side play football. On a field. Near home.

Euro Super League. Heh. Let the Asians pay for it...
