Man Utd v NUFC Match Thread
22 August 2015 11:37 Post ID: #462307
With Sissoko out and de Jong joining the squad, it's gonna be an interesting line up that faces a side that we just dont beat at Old Trafford, aside the Yohan Cabaye inspired 1-0 two seasons ago.

With all the talk of a Man Utd or Rooney 'crisis' this week, it's just set up nicely for the 'stitch-on' wig wearer from Liverpool to get 2 or 3 against us today and that's before you mention the other players.

With our defence resembling an old Ford Escort just longing to be told to be scrapped at an MOT check, the likes of Mata will have a field day today to give the press and TV 'experts' the ammunition to laud their Sky favourites after a decent win.

They'll also be willing the new Man Utd signing Memphis Depay to get on the scoresheet as the headlines will already be written ahead of their first tonking of someone. Headlines like 'A Walk In Memphis' or something for those older heads amongst us that remember the Marc Cohn or Cher versions of the song.

All that said, the pressure should be off today and if it were up to me, Id hoy Florian Thauvin straight in and go two up top with Mitrovic joining Cisse.

We sit back and it's not a case of a defeat but by how many.

Team news follows.......

A strong bench, Williamson aside.

Darlow, Williamson, Cisse, de Jong, Aarons, Thauvin, Tiote.

Still don't think the mancs defence has been tested yet this season, so as our defence is like a sieve just start with two up front and have a go at them, it's the only way we stand a chance of getting anything. Start with Cisse on his own and we're looking at a hiding.

Mitrovic is starting. The line up is more attacking than I thought it would be.

Perez and Mitrovic at least is positive, still don't think you can play Colback and Anita together.

Don't want to speak too soon, but I'm liking the look of Mbemba so far, quick, strong in the tackle and reads the oppositions movement well, dare I say it we may have signed a quality defender here.

Some positives from that half and if we replace Obertan, we can get something out of this.

Aye, I've never known a winger who can turn a promising attacking situation into a position where are defence are under pressure within a matter of seconds, the space invader headed twat.

Cisse is dogshit, you just need to look at the work rate and more importantly the footballing brain on Perez to realise how poor he is, I do agree we need to believe here, they're simply not that good, I 'd get De Jong and Aaron's on.

Knackered here, as you are when you don't have much possession, just a question of hanging on now, defending deep (but very well so far). Regardless of the result lots of positives here and a really good team effort, special mention to Mbemba, Colo and Perez who have been fucking outstanding.

Decent result but felt embarrassed in the Cumberland in Tynemouth when people were celebrating like SDU had won the league.

Cisse, Obertan and Colback are shit and wouldn't get in any other team in the league. Meanwhile, Aarons and De Jong sit twiddling their thumbs. Man Utd and their toss pot fans were there for the taking today but we sat back. Felt sorry for Mitrovic and Winjaldum.

When Pardew's team won at Old Trafford for the first time in over 40 years it was the worst Man U team in living memory and when Steve McClaren's team sneak a draw today they 'were there for the taking'. It makes the 2-7, 0-6 3-5 reversals there along with many others so much easier to accept knowing they had a good team then.

We got a good point doing the old park the bus routine against a tired Manchester United team. It hardly warrants cartwheels but it's a decent result to try and build on and I thought McClaren matched Van Gaal tactically today.

Good result yo take some positives from , more players need to be brought in and deadwood shipped out.
Obertan was wank but other than that i thought we had a good game.
Still need a left winger/wideman and right back with pace.
Janmatt would have had trouble with depay today.
Lose cisse and bring austin in would be a good move.

Depends what your take is on LVG. Had the score been what I predicted in the Scorecast today then we would be propping up the rest of the League now and Man U would be top with a 100% win record. As for Rooney, it was eleven years ago this week when we bid £20m for him and started a bidding war. Funny old game, as Greavsie used to say.

Aye i never really thought we had a chance getting him once manure were interested but at the time it was exciting. LVG isn't as good as people make out, all the clubs he has been successful with gave him plenty of funds stick him in charge of Newcastle then you would see the class or not in his management.

£230m that's how much he has spent so far and they still couldn't beat Newcastle.

I don't really like when people judge a manager's leadership skills until after a few years in the job but LVG has a good record. lets not forget though the two clubs have spent very different amounts on getting a team together and newcastle did well to share the points. newcastle good or man utd not good... I'll guess there are few teams to do that this season.

oh, and i'm not celebrating as I still want ashley maimed.

Regardless of who's holding the keys to St James', we shouldn't be afraid to enjoy a good result. We're owed the odd chance to let the guard down.

Its not regardless for me. I appreciate a good result and egg them on while they are playing as its in my blood do take joy from taking two points of man utd. A little bit of me wants Steve mac to do ok as I'v always thought him to be a good manager... he should have never have taken the england job, just like keegan and robson.. its a no win situation.

However, in the current climate, i simply can't wank myself off about a good result and even a 5-0 win would have had its bugs.

we need ashley out before I enjoy newcastle again and then I'll only start again on the modern game of cheating fucking players who have ruined a once great game.

Personally, Ashley aside, I think the game has changed that much that most of us older heads would struggle to enjoy Newcastle the way we did.

It's a case of jumping on the 2015 bandwagon or remembering the game the way it was, the same as the older types did before us with their tales of cup glory or Len Shackleton/Hughie Gallacher wankfests

I think you're trying to sell the game a bit too much for me. we're all different but when my grandad told me the game had i always just assumed he'd out grown it and now i think it hasn't changed anywhere near like it has in my lifetime.

He'd be turning in his grave if we hadn't set fire to him.

A good performance far better than I thought it would be. Early days but McClaren sorting them out, will take time. Obertan and Gouffran will soon be gone hopefully. I hope they continue to strengthen the squad.
You are not an Ashley apologist if you comment on a decent performance.
Need to get consistency into performances now, not just a one off.

A good result for SDU.
With a little luck they could have matched Pardew's result in 2013.

A few more like this, and Ashley will be dreaming of 50,000 at the SDA every home game and even less "investment" next year.

I didn't say you were an Ashley apologist if you thought it was a decent result. It's the cunts who celebrate like we've won the league of clap to celebrate a mere draw. It's also the cunts who are proud to wear the new shirt and purchase season tickets. They're the Ashley apologists.

All I seen from yesterday was a half decent defensive performance and an excuse not to sign any of the much needed defenders.

Fellaini not injured and wasn't in the squad. With his aerial ability and our weakness to defend any ball into the box he would have been the first name on my teamsheet.

Was he suspended?
