I think we should mix the teams up a bit!

Yep, I was going to suggest that. We may score then :)

It would give us a better chance too.

I just checked last years entries and everyone has a team name for where they are from, so why not just call ourselves Talk of the Tyne?

Obviously Stevie's Wonders will remain. We have the ToTT as the main team

This years strips don't have names on the back, just the TOTT logo on the front. some were too long to do and look right.

If no-one disagrees then i'll randomly choose sides soon so everyone knows the score as to their 'main' side for the league part.

As much as some may want to, they wont be able to play for 2 sides all the time as there will be times of overlap.

The 2 teams are:

Stevie's Wonders - wearing Orange
Talk of the Tyne - wearing Black/Asphalt.

The 2-3(1 DM + 2AM)-1 formation seems a winner. if we opt for that, then i bagsie the DM role

So it'll be.

Should we not just pick two decent sides with people slotting into their best position where possible, and a bit of balance of skill and fitness levels?

We can but people need to put down their chosen position before we do it.

Im primarily a striker.

Also, I nicked this from the net. It seems close to the tactics we need to adopt.

Creating a diamond formation is a great way of making a strong system ideal for defending and attacking. It helps your players cover all areas of the pitch, allowing them to focus quickly when possession is lost, or spread out in all directions for fast counter attacks when possession is won.

Importantly, the diamond also provides lots of options for passing into space.

I have found that using the 2-1-2-1 diamond formation is the best for advancing 7-a-side teams from more simple formations such as 2-2-2.

With this strong diamond stretching from the attacker to defensive midfielder, it is a shape that is hard to get past and requires a skilful opposition to find a weakness.

Defence
The two defenders cover the back and wings with close support in front of them. They need to be aware of the options ahead of them, down either wing to the wide players or inside to the defensive midfielder.

They also have the option to make long clearances to the attacker at the top of the diamond. Unlike the 11-a-side version of this formation, the defenders do not need to attack down the wings. They can simply pass the ball to the wide midfielders.

Midfield
You have three players in midfield. One sits in front of the defence as cover and is instrumental in playing the ball to the wide midfielders. They also have an important role by being in the correct position to win a header from long goal kicks.

The defensive midfielder prevents opposition goal kicks travelling through midfield and into defence. Meanwhile, the two wide midfielders control the shape of the diamond. It is their job to win or receive the ball and advance play into the opposition half.

Their passes into the attacker need to be accurate and varied in angle and height to keep the opposition defence on the back foot. This is a strong midfield because you have three players across the middle of the pitch making it difficult for teams to get past.

Attack
The lone attacker is vital. They must pounce on any poor goal kicks which fall short. Good movement is also required to reach crosses or passes played into them. The attacker must stay upfield at all times, even when their team is defending set plays in their own half. They provide a crucial outlet.

It's all about legs in midfield in 7 a side. You can't just sit there, a defender can do that when attacking.

No position carries passengers but you still need to know what you're doing so tactics are important, so far we've arranged nowt.

On your analysis, Mo Farah should be signed up by NUFC as soon as.

Steeks is right though, its all about movement.Being able to play a pass then kick on to create space/recieve a return ball.
The back two should be pushing up to defensive midfield when we have the ball.
The midfield 3 should then have the legs to drop back in when we dont have the ball.
I'm not saying we spray it about like Barca, just need a simple plan so we always have at least 2 passing options, forward & back.

It's the most important position in 7 a side, the best player has to go in there. The three in midfield do the most work.

Is correct. My mate Don is good at that. It's all about the vision, touch and most importantly movement.

We had nowhere near enough support at times, because the pitches are too big for our fitness levels.

In a charity tournament, there is no 'best' player as we're a bunch of ego's, injury impaired and heedless chicken.

On my part, it's massively frustrating knowing that not long ago i would have pissed this in my sleep due to massive stamina levels and ability but now it's a case of going through a pain barrier to show up.

The only way this will work is if (as mentioned above by Plat's), we opt for our prefered positions and work the teams from there.

We could also adopt 2 captains, 1 for each side and see if that's easier, instead of us giving too many thoughts.

If my mate Paul (the nippy one) plays he would be a wide player, join up with striker.

Seeing as you are the board's resident Iron Man, you're better off in a position requiring lots of running and tackling.

It could be easier if we list the 2 squads together and nominate our 1st choice prefered position followed by our second to eliminate any hiccups.
