BowburnMag Charity Football Day - 1st June 2013 Thread

Aye.

OM got the backwash of Bernard's anger though, inventing a new type of 'shoulder bounce' type of tackle in the process.

Great day out all round lads. Never seen so many tabs smoked and pints drunk in between games.

Still, at least we looked the business in our ToTT shirts, and Steeks will always have THAT tackle to talk about. Perfectly timed.

Special mention to BBM's dad for spending so long chatting with us in the bar. He's a lovely fella.

Thanks also to Rexn for buying all those drinks bottles. It turned out pretty warm in the end, so they were vital.

There was a team photo taken, Chopey. It will probably go up on the Steve Thompson charity web site.

Anyone else suffering this morning? My right ankle and left knee are both twice the size they were 24 hours ago.

I reckon the dodgy wrist is down to overuse of inappropriate hand signals to anyone who scored against us.

I'm just achey all over today. Could do with a proper sports leg massage. Luckily no injuries to report.

Hopefully Paul's brother in law will play in nets next year to give pm a break. It must have been like the Alamo for him at times!

Hope you all had a good time, sounds like it on other threads.

If you are going to enter next year, the offer for shirts again is open, if you want it.

Hopefully I will make an appearance, not playing mind, to shout you on!!!!!

Excellent offer and much appreciated by everyone that attended. We looked the business in every way but the football on the pitch.

We will be there again next year but need to improve.

We need a manager and some organisation on the pitch as all the other teams stepped it up in quality and in some cases, personnel. Olivier Bernard being a prime example of some of the calibre of player on show.

It was for charity, although we couldn't help but feel we were the givers of the most charity to opposition strikers.

Add a keeper to the list for next year because PM will be sick of having to volunteer.

I thoguht the shirt giving was supposed to be anonymous so had not commented but huge thanks.

As TNMW said, some lessons to be learned from this year re formations (and stud choice).

It was so nice to meet Bowburn's family and friends too with a hint that some of Bowburn's father's generation might be trying to put a team together.

What came through, despite our form and the sort of fixture list that highlights Pardew assertion this season that the opportunity to gain momentum is important, was the fantastic attitude of all, especially ToTT members, to enjoy the event.

It is amazing that even with those results, there was not a word of complaint from anyone but a feeling that we all enjoyed it. It was fantastic to meet some of the genuine characters behind the ToTT personas. At the end of the day, we have 3 common bonds, NUFC, ToTT and not least BowburnMag.

The date is in my diary for next year, whether it is as player, hatchet man, impact sub, physio, cone layer or water carrier. Looking forward to it already.

Can only echo what everyone else has said.

The football was a secondary thing, the main one was supporting a great cause & a good friend.you just know he would have been in stitches at every mis kick, slip & slide we made.
I don't mind being in nets,I'd rather be pinging 30
Chances over the bar though
Thanks to ourvery generous benefactor for the shirts, everyone was well impressed & to everyone who took the time to travel up.

Concur with Rex and PM. The spirit of everyone was top notch plus a great chance to have a proper debate during games.

Hopefully more from here will volunteer next time out, whether playing or supporting.

A splendid effort by all involved for a young man so tragically taken in the prime of life. He was 'a breath of fresh air' on the forum and he is sorely missed. It speaks volumes that lads are prepared to travel hundreds of miles to play in a competition in his memory. But let's not forget the local lads that have contributed to make it all possible. Well done, each and everyone of you.

Nice one, McNamee.

Just a thought but it worked out at I think £5 per head per player for registration.

Sponsorship would become a bit convoluted but donations can be made via the web site:

A top suggestion Mac.

We could expand the idea further and get us all sponsored. Obviously all profits go to charity.

Maybe do other things/events during the year. Something to think of.

Maybe an under 35's team and an over 35's team in a proper league. A bit of planning, preparation and training can achieve miracles.

The likes of Steeks or Rex who live miles away or can't make weekly/monthly treks for various reasons could do a guest slot now and then. Just a suggestion.

Over 35s sounds good to me.

As an aside, I was having a chat with Brian who was officiating and is behind the idea of getting an over 50s team together for next year, even if it is cannon fodder.

There is another event, golf this time. How many golfers are there on here? We would need to get together teams of 4.

Im still way too young for an over 50's but could maybe 'swing' to be part of the golf set up.

I have a dodgy shoulder and haven't played in ten years but i know how to move the bat.

Right up for a golf event if need be, let me know a date and time.

If they don't have a course to host the event yet, might be able to help on that as well.
