PSG still the most likely destination.

For who, Ba or Carroll?

Didn't dekka make a point of saying Liverpool paid the full fee upfront!

Im pretty sure someone did as that's what i thought. Rex may know.

However, a journalist bloke on Talkshite said he'd seen the books and it wasn't.

They need strength in depth plus for £7 million, it's a steal.

That said... It may not happen.

Some interesting stuff on this thread. Before I'd want him back here there's quite a few things to question and consider.

Although it's highly likely Ashley, Llambias and his own agent had him every which way but staying that January night, it's worth remembering that he had signed a very good improved contract offer only two months before he left. HE still decided to go. The money there was more important than staying here and possibly becoming a legend. Is that ok now all of a sudden? Is that the kind of character we want?

He is a headcase with a lot of baggage, and I don't think being out in Newcastle is the best thing for someone made of such brittle stuff. How long would it be before some mouthy twat pushes him too far and he's back in front of the judge? Not forgetting the animosity with Saylor and any other players. Maybe he has grown up a bit, or maybe he's just been sitting at his lavish home putting on weight.

It doesn't matter one jot what we sold him for. It's whether he is worth the money now that's key. If you sell a car worth £10k for £35k to someone with more money than sense, you don't buy it back off them for £20k, and congratulate yourself on a £15k profit. You keep the £35k and buy a car thats value. Is he really worth £15million? I mean, really?

Where would he play? I know we need a bigger squad, particularly because of Europe, and that a squad should have different options. There's a big difference between having someone who can bring something different to a team, to having to change a team around completely to accommodate them. We aren't set up for just whipping crosses in, and unless he gets the ball delivered to him, will he cause the damage that Ba and Cisse have?

Is he really any good? He's had one good half season, and did look very good. But that's all. Do we know what he would've developed into if he ahd stayed? Would other teams have worked him out? What about when his form dipped? He's not appeared happy at Klanfield, but he's shown very little application and determination at times there.

Remember the reason we finished 5th is because of the team set up and the way we played. Although Hughton did well, I don't believe he could have achieved what Pardew did last season. If we'd kept Carroll and not brought in Ba or Cisse, does anyone really believe we would've finished anywhere near 5th?

Far be it from me to be cynical, but don't we have a decent sell on clause in the sale to Liverpool? It would be in our interests to stir up interest in him so that other clubs compete, thereby raising the fee. 20% of £15million's not a bad little earner.

I found it interesting in tonight's friendly that Pardew was heard quite often shouting at the team to get the ball in the box early. Maybe that's one of the things we're working on in any potential AC arrival as i reckon we miss a beast in the box.

Very good points Platini particularly:

"He is a headcase with a lot of baggage, and I don't think being out in Newcastle is the best thing for someone made of such brittle stuff. How long would it be before some mouthy twat pushes him too far and he's back in front of the judge? Not forgetting the animosity with Saylor and any other players. Maybe he has grown up a bit, or maybe he's just been sitting at his lavish home putting on weight."

That would be my worry among others.
I cannot see Ashley paying over the odds for him when market value is probably between £10 and £15 mil and Liverpool wil be trying to save face on the fee. There must be better options elsewhere for that money, I cant belive De Jong was our only forward target.
Having said all that if AC returns we should give him and the team our full backing.
I'm more interested in defensive incomings.

like i said, if we dont get him on loan witha 13 million pound fee after 1 season , at least ashley can say he tried to get him back. Cant see anyone paying 20 million for him anyway, so we might as well wait., maybe end up getting him for 15 million. one things for sure, he would prefer to come home than go anywhere else...which is important....

Would like to have Carroll back but can't see how it will work.

1. Number 9: Like most strikers he has an ego/desire to wear the No.9 shirt, Cisse has it. If Carroll out scores Cisse he's gonna be eyeing up his old number.

2. Wages: He's on 80k a week, even if he took a 30k cut his 50k a week would still be more than Ba's, Cabaye and god knows who elses wages.

3. Form: Are we guranteed to return him to his old form?

4. We have Ba and Shola are big lads that like to attack headers, with Cisse and his bag of tricks would Carroll coming back leave us with limited options Cisse/Carroll, Cisse/Ba, Cisse/Shola. Would rather have a player like Cisse to give us different partnership options.

If he has any recollection of when he last played at SJP, he'll not want to come back. His 2nd half substitution and the ironic cheers should still be ringing in his ears

Thought the same thing in regards to Llambias, they were also more then happy to drop him in the shite by saying how he forced them to sell him to Liverpool, it certainly didnt come across as a happy split,

Just on Llambias, would it be beyond the realms of possibility that they knew that AC wouldnt live up to his 35 million pound billing and that there would be the possibility that they might be able to snatch him back on the cheap at some stage down the track? I mean when you think about it what is exactly the expectation when a player is transferred for 35 mill? For a striker 35 mill should buy many many goals, and the scousers are not exactly known for their patience, could all of this have been planned?

I admire your enthuasim tnmw,
and personally I would love to see AC back playing in a black and white shirt.

I don't understand those that took the hump with him.

But we are dealing with Mike Ashley here.

The only way it could make any sense at all,is if Demba Ba was involved.

I really cant see Red Scouse either loaning him out or selling him at a loss to NUFC, hope he doesnt come here either mind, he will end up either abroad or to a club lower than Red Scouse.Do you seriously think they will strengthen your squad? Also he doesnt want to go anywhere and wants to fight for his place.

The fact is we hold the cards here. We would like him but not at any price, he wants to come, he is only worth @ £15M at most.

If they don't sell him to us who else is going to pay £20M for a player that doesn't want to go there? Or do they want to keep an unhappy player?

SSN stating that Carroll is stressing his disappointment at not being in Rodgers' plans

So, he's keen to come back cos he's out of favour. Hardly endearing.

Sky say LFC agreed a loan but have moved the goal posts, further annoying the Carroll camp

Fulham and West Ham also in the frame

Nufc need to drive this through or move on. I'm fed up with it.

Fulham and West ham would be an even bigger backward step for Carroll though, he won't go there. You make a good point blaster in saying that he's keen to come back because he's out of favour, bear in mind he wouldn't exactly be first choice here with Ba And Cisse here. With rodgers at LFC there doesn't seem to be any place for him in the side, hence him wanting to leave (plus it seems rodgers is happy to let him go)

Endearing to us do you mean? He wouldn't come out and say ' I hate it here, I would love to go back to the Toon' he's just trying to hedge his bets like they all do - just before they sign for someone else.

I don't think we do. I think we can afford to sit back and Liverpool will come back to us, cap in hand, when they see their asset rapidly diminishing still further. I think that's why this one is so public, a deliberatye ploy to turn his head. We want him back obvioously, but not at any price. Liverpool are just hacked off as we have done them once before and they're terrified of it happening again. For once I think we're playing our cards right.

Because our regime won't pay a penny more than they think they need to, this is well established now. Agree with manxmag that liverpool won't want to get screwed over by us a second time, i think if we bide our time we could get him back for less. But i think a more prudent strategy would be to pursue other targets and come back in with another bid later in the window. Liverpool are more likely to drop their asking price if they think we might go elsewhere
