First proper run under my belt , 27 mins 14 secs (bit of walking in there steep hill bout halfway in ). Broken.Com! Perhaps we could get this sticky'd so we can track each others progress .

It's all for you Steve .

27 minutes? How far did you run?

It would take me 3 months to build up to that!

Also, I'm relying on the ballot thing. Any idea when this happens?

I've got a damaged Meniscus in my knee apparently. I've to go and get some exercises from the physio. I'm planning to power through the pain and complete a 10 miler within a few weeks.
What's this ballot lark? I left my email on the GNR website, does that mean I'm on the list?

Well, if you're not, then expect some emails from 'rich' Nigerian royalty within the month..

Steeks if they have your email your in the ballot , I went a different route BHF heartrunners and I got a definite place through them , only snag is the 500 pledge although the chairman of the HL team I used to play for and still watch has pledged 250 to me , halfway there .

I'm sporting these at the minute, highly recommended if you need a stability shoe. Got them for £59 on sale at Niketown on Oxford street.
They even got me to run on a treadmill and recorded my footstrike and recommended these rather than the cushioning Asics I was using.

Do you at least have the decency to put a pair of shorts over the tights? I wear those Nike base layer lycra shorts to keep an old stab wound on my groin supported but Iput my runningshorts over the top!
I done a quick three miler tonight, hopefully be back up to 5+ in a few weeks if my knee gets better.

Blimey, this has gotten very technical.

So, I can't just go out in my five a side trainers and footy shorts? Basically I've got to get a pair of tights, a pair of lycra things, a pair of running shorts, some fluorescent gloves, a running hat, a running vest, a running top, several pairs of running socks and some orthopaedic looking trainers?

fuck that i just wear my 5 a side gear and running shoes for jogging

on the day though you'll be wearing cords and a blazer so it might be worth during the build up wearing wet jeans or jogging in treacle, whilst covered by a duvet or something, you know, work your way up

p.s.

training update:

ran for the metro today. only slightly out of breath, luckily there was a seat though. some old lady nearly beat me to it, but one look at the sweaty build up on my forehead was enough to persuade her i might be rabid and not worth approaching.

Ran for the car in the rain. 8 yards in under 20 seconds. Might have tweaked my calf.

It's a start though.

Just sketching out my plan for the year.. I think by mid July I'll be able to run with a Pimms and Lemonade in cords and blazer.

No mate full on tights out , reverse camel toe . The mrs finds them strangely irresistible , pity my legs are on fire . (she will have to rely more on that rabbity thing in the drawer )

Had a two hour session at the boxing club tonight. At least if I can't finish the run I'll be able to punch an old man or woman in the back in frustration.

What if we don't get into this ballot thing? Is there any way we can join as a team, seeing as we're doing it all for the same reason?

I'd like to state now that I want to split mine 50/50 between Pancreatic Cancer Research and Steve's fund, for the two people I have lost this year. I'd get a lot more sponsorship if I did it that way.

Had a quick chat with Mark on fb yesterday.
We both agreed it was a bit crappy trying to sort stuff out over fb so i suggested meeting him for a drink before the next home game.
Said there was at least 5 of us looking to do the run for Steve's foundation so he'll fill us in on all the stuff they've done so far.

Done a three miler tonight, put some effort in and didn't slack off. Going to try and train five times this week to get back in the swing after the flu and a gammy knee.

I used a similar thing the other week for my knee from http://www.sporttape.co.uk/ rabit, pre cut and comes with instructions, easy to put on in the right place.
Definitely helped, felt supportive without bulkiness or smell. Lasted about 5 days before it started to peel off. Worth trying if you have some little injuries.
