Butt Walks Out!

Nicky Butt is on loan with Birmingham City from Newcastle United until the end of the season, when the move is supposed to be made permanent. But he has walked out on the club after he was dropped for Brum's match against West Ham last night.

Under the terms of the loan he cannot return in mid-season. But the England international had it written into the deal that any permanent move to the Midlands would be off if Birmingham were relegated, or they changed their mind.

Bruce refused to say whether Butt still had a future with Birmingham and confirmed he would be holding showdown talks with the player. Bruce's decision to pick son Alex, normally a defender, in Butt's midfield role is the cause of the matter.

Bruce: 'He didn't ask for permission, he decided on his own bat to leave and go home. I want a team which is totally committed to the cause. We are in a relegation fight.'
