Latest tattle from the managerial race is:

• Alan Shearer - just about rules himself out according to Auntie Beeb. He`s happy with MOTD and the other work he`s doing. Don`t change your mind Al.

• Harry Redknapp - Redknapp's brother-in-law and his former assistant boss at West Ham, Frank Lampard senior, believes it is not a good bet. Lampard told BBC Radio Five Live: 'Harry has not been offered the job at Newcastle. And I don't know if he would want to leave the south coast.'

• Redknapp echoed these sentiments, being quoted by The Express as saying:

"I really do not know anything about this. I have not spoken to anyone from Newcastle. When I saw that Sam had left my immediate thoughts were that Alan Shearer was a certainty to take over. There`s nothing in my being linked with the job. I had an offer not so long ago to take over at what I consider a massive club but I didn`t go. I am happy down on the South Coast."

• Martin Jol - The Times runs with the story that the former Spurs boss is set to step intothe breach at the second time of asking.
