Our best squad ever

It`s ironic to think that only two months ago the players and management were bigging up the current squad as the best it had ever been at St James. Fast forward two months and the same tired old excuses are being trotted out. However the most amusing/startling (delete as applicable) is the fact Sam has come out and admitted he had an entire defence as first choice before the current lot. Hardly backing the current crop is he? Anyway he said:

'I was after Mikael Silvestre (Manchester United), Sylvain Distin (Portsmouth) and Tal Ben Haim (Chelsea). Once your first targets have gone, you look elsewhere. Your only option is to look at what's available in the foreign markets.'

So basically we`ve walked into Harrods and ended up buying in Primark. Sweat deal.
