'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mort on Owen

With Michael Owen never really far from headline news it`s good to hear Chris Mort put a grounded view of the player and his future on Tyneside. Mort also admitted he hopes to have his contract sorted in the near future:

"I think Michael does incredibly well with things - if you look at the amount of column inches he receives, he does a brilliant job dealing with it. There are a number of players in the country where this is going to be the case. They have the media following their every move. I've not talked to Michael about a contact extension. We are enjoying seeing him fit and well again and performing well on the pitch. I don't feel now is the right time to talk about extending his contract. I think he just wants to get back to playing regular football. And it's great to see him back on the pitch which is where we want him.'

Chairman happy with striker but striker not happy with club by the sounds of it. He'll be off in the summer.
