It`s been a bit of a rough few days for Alan Smith. After suffering a knock in the head against Everton and struggling with a knee injury he`s also found out he`s suspended for the Spurs game in 13 days time. Speaking out he admitted his disappointment despite the three points gained at the weekend:
"It`s disappointing, because you get bruised and battered, and have stitches in your head. You get kicked all over, and make one foul and get a yellow card. It`ll be frustrating (missing the Spurs game), but there`s nothing I can do. I`ve had a bit of a knee problem since the Derby game. I`m going to go with England and get assessed. I`m missing the Tottenham game, so I`ll have enough time to get it right. I`ll go down there, get some treatment and see what they say. It`s strained ligaments. I can play, so I`m all right!
The Everton game was probably our best performance of the season. It`s vital to get three points before you go away, because you`ve got two weeks to dwell on a defeat. That`s never good for anybody. I think it`s a Newcastle trait to keep everyone on the edge of their seats until the last minute. I don`t know why, but it just seems to happen to some clubs. But I think the fans did well for us. It`s frustrating for them as well, because in the first half we were dominating, but David Moyes had given his boys a bit of a rocket at half-time and they turned the game on its head. We showed good character to come back and win."
