Big Sam: Smith has a bad rep

Big Sam has stuck his neck out to defend Alan Smith today after he managed to notch up his fifth yellow card in only ten games for us. Still to score, his time so far has been littered with needless bookings in his midfield role and Sunday saw him booked whilst playing up front. Sam said:

"You wonder sometimes if some people`s reputations get them booked, rather than fouls that they may or may not commit. Certainly, for me, Alan has been reckless and deserved to be booked this season - but not this time. Now he`s out of the Tottenham game after picking up a suspension for five bookings. That`s a disappointment, especially given how well he played up front. He did everything apart from score. He linked really, really well with Oba Martins."
