'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Owen Defends His Newcastle Move

Michael Owen has been put on the spot, no thanks to comments made by the England manager that ended up in the News Of The World.

He was on camera saying his priority is Newcastle at the moment, not the World Cup, and the stories that he would rather by a helicopter and travel to Newcastle than buy a house in the area are well wide of the mark.

'The helicopter is for business and not for anything else', said Owen.

As for his injury?

Souness: 'He had his boot off yesterday and he was having another scan this morning, and then it's just a case of stepping up his training. But we have not put a time on it, because the best one to decide that would be Michael on how his foot feels.

'The recovery period is still, I think, anywhere between six and 12 weeks - six weeks would mean he is ready in a fortnight. But 12 weeks would be a long, long time away. I don't want to think about that.'
