'If It's Football, It's Vital'

EMO post match summary

Following his three goals against the Israelis and the Russians, it was a chipper Michael Owen addressing the media in the wake of the 3-0 caning dished out. He said:

"We know we've got the quality. All too often we haven't shown it. We've seen some games when we have shown it, blowing teams away in the first half hour - like in these last two games [against Israel and Russia]. It's not often you get to enjoy a game with England and take your foot off the gas, but we've done that in the last two matches. It's been a long ten days, and two massive games.

We lost to Germany, but always said these two games were the important ones and we produced when it mattered. We've had two wins, both 3-0, and we're delighted we've put ourselves back in, if not a great position, then as good a position as we could after two massive games. If we keep progressing like that then we are on to a good thing.'
