'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Buy-out Bonanza

Speculation is spreading like wildfire over this whole Icelandic consortium conundrum that`s going on in the press this morning. Half of the papers seem to be edging on the side of 'Ashley`s staying` whereas the other half seem to seek dependence on the Chris Mort quotes saying 'we`re in it for the long haul`.

People-wise Palmi Haraldsson, a low-profile businessman who has stakes in a string of British retailers including Hamleys, Goldsmiths and the Iceland grocery chain, has held talks about paying more than £135 million to take Newcastle off Ashley's hands.

Haraldsson was quoted in the Icelandic media yesterday saying:

'Newcastle is a great club, with a great manager and I have been a fan for a long time."

Shearer has also been mentioned in a round-about way. Overall, our opinion, is that it`s bollocks and Mort, Ashley and the rest of the St James Holdings group won`t be selling up quickly.
