What Will Take To Make Fred Act?

What Will Take To Make Fred Act?

We've read it all before, and now the Chronicle make Cheltenham D-Day for Souness. 'Graeme Souness dare not lose at Cheltenham on Saturday or he'll be axed', says the local newspaper today. But will the chairman swing the axe if Cheltenham DO get that horror result.

Souness survived his face-to-face with Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd yesterday and the chairman went into hiding. The ex-Rangers boss gladly told The Times he had coffee and biscuits and the world is all sunshine and light, as for Freddy ... NOTHING!

An FA Cup giant-killing away to League Two side Cheltenham in front of a live TV audience of millions and Shepherd would be forced to at the very least answer a few questions. But hiding under the bed seems to be his way.

United's problem is that they cannot afford the £3m it would take to sack the manager plus another £2m inevitably needed for his backroom staff. Feddy has clung to the hope that he will eventually resign - but you can forget that! He wants a pay off ... and you'd better believe it!

After the FA Cup comes the tricky away match at Manchester City a week tomorrow, and the question is not 'will he get sacked' ... but 'when'?
