Slapping down Psycho

Slapping down Psycho

Having no sooner completed his first game in barnstorming fashion down at the Vic, Mr Barton (centre parting) was putting the boot into former boss Stuart Pearce for his open airing of his grievances. Speaking about this and his future prospects he said:

"I didn`t speak to Pearce about moving to Newcastle. We had a relationship breakdown in the end and he came out and said certain things I think he shouldn`t have said. There`s a lot of things I feel about him but I`ve not come out and said them and I don`t plan on doing so. When you have a working relationship with someone there`s a lot of things that should be kept in-house. Stuart thinks different and he`s entitled to his opinion but if everyone spoke their opinions we`d have anarchy and chaos in this world.

It`s vitally important to get the support of the fans and their appreciation for what you`re doing for their club. Players come and go and can be ships in the night but if you can leave some kind of legacy to remember you by you`ve done a good job. I had a great rapport with the fans at City and the wrench in leaving was 50-50 between the fans and the club. It`s difficult for players these days to get good relationships with fans because of all the chopping and changing.

I`m an Englishman and nothing makes me more proud than to play for my country. I`m very patriotic. It was the pinnacle of my career representing my country. I`d love to be in the England fold but I`d much rather be successful here at club level because this is where your bread`s buttered. This is where you earn your caps by playing well for the club so the first thing on my mind is to achieve success here. If I do that everything else takes care of itself."
