Sam backs the Duke
Following Steve Gibson`s cheeky comments in the Star on Sunday yesterday, Big Sam has been quick out of the blocks to defend his new signing The Duke. Whether he`s using it to have a pop at the man who pipped him for the England job is open to speculation but his McClaren comments are a little backhanded. Sam said:
'He had problems under McClaren. As a manager, you have to give a player the backing and support to make sure he's comfortable. If you've got a happy player and somebody who looks forward to coming in and training, you are going to get more out of them. Every player has faults but what matters most is Mark's experience, ability to hold up the ball and talent to score goals.'
