Shearer on Taylor/Viduka

Having resurfaced from playing golf somewhere Big Al has had his say on a number of the current issues surrounding the club, primarily Steven Taylor and Mark Viduka. On Taylor he said:

'The best defender in side is Steven Taylor and I think when he calms down a bit he will be a real big asset. He has been brought up the right way and he's a decent lad who understands the value of playing for Newcastle United. And if we can get some players in and build a back four around him, we will have a chance of being successful.'
On the Duke he said:

'I am a huge fan of Mark Viduka and I think he is a great signing for Newcastle. In my view, he kept Middlesbrough in the Premiership on his own last season with 17 goals. Yes, he has got a history of injury problems, but so too have a lot of strikers of his style, but he has always come back from these injuries and done really well and I'm sure he could do the same again if necessary.

Looking to the coming season, I think if Mark plays up front with Michael Owen then that combination could be quite tasty. On their day, there will not be many better partnerships in the Premiership than Viduka and Owen.'
