No Money For Bridge

Wayne Bridge has been a target of Graeme Souness since the first day he took over at St James' Park, but we are living in Cuckoo Land if we seriously believe he will arrive during this transfer window as a Newcastle player.

We can't put together the £7m to sign him, for one thing, and now Jose Mourinho says he is prepared to allow one of his fringe players to leave the club - but only on loan. And that does not look like being Bridge, who has had a series of injury problems since signing for the London club.

Tottenham are said to be interested in securing the defender on a permanent deal. And that is another aspect we must consider. Obviously they have the money - we haven't - but Spurs are a rising power these days and would Mourinho seriously think of aiding (what could be) a club that could challenge Chelsea for the title next season?
