'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A tall tale

Given our midget full backs of Carr and Babayaro being brutally exploited last season, most notably by Sam`s Bolton team at St James`, it comes as no surprise that the new gaffer is looking to up the average height of the team above it`s current 7 dwarfs stature. Speaking about his new policy, wor boss said:

'We need to get more height in the team. Most games are won and lost on set-pieces in modern football. If you don't have the height to compete at both ends then you won't score as many and you'll concede too many goals - it's a big factor. I'm spending a huge amount of time on the phone trying to get things in place. We're finding out that inflation has hit. The new money has come in from Sky and all of a sudden it has inflated the salaries and the transfer fees, but we are having to compete.'

It's not so much height as it is ability in the air; and Carr & Babayaro are rubbish. Martins is short but he wins plenty of headers; Butt isn't particularly tall but he makes life hard for any opposing player. As for the wages, it's a disgrace that so much of this television money is going straight into the pockets of the players. They're not on the same planet as us any more, it's ridiculous.
