Pesky release clauses

Given the fact Umbro and England rep Michael Owen has made no effort to tie his future to Tyneside in the last two months, none of us will be surprised to discover that Big Sam has some worries over his intentions. Blaming a straight line balance release clause that drops 25% a year (which f*cking genius put that in), he believes Owen could be bailing now for £12m or £9m in January. The latter seems more likely as the passionless striker would hate to be seen as the bad guy. Anyway Sam said:

'There's nothing I can do about it,' said Big Sam. 'We are benefiting from a release clause to get Joey Barton, but could suffer because of Michael's.'

Meanwhile, on the Barton subject, Willie McKay has said that the issues regarding the loyalty bonus will not affect his client joining Newcastle.

what is it with these bloody release clauses? Players get the best of all worlds. Split on Owen, half of me says let him stew in the reserves but the sensible part knows this is a business and we may as well get as much for him now as we can.

Owen's away. Mr Passionless can ***** off back to Aintree and play with his horses.
Roy4Triggs
As far as I can see, Benitez doesn't want Owen so he won't be going back there. None of the other supposed big clubs have held any sustained interest, either. The only viable option would be Arsenal if Thierry Henry sodded off to Spain.
