Breaking news last night was the revelation that West Ham, after weeks of speculation, have finally lodged a bid for Scott Parker. The bid, somewhere in the region of 8m, looks set to be accepted so that Sam can start bringing in his own players without waiting for the boardroom battle to come to a clearcut conclusion.

Again this morning, the Journal believes that first player is going to be Joey Barton, with Leighton Baines and Ben Haim not far behind. Gravgaard, Viduka and Crouch make up the rest of the hot tips for the incomings.

As for Parker - I can't say I'm sad to see him go for the amount of money that is being bandied about. He was a trier and a battler, shown by his performance against Arsenal where he basically passed out on the pitch, but never looked at ease playing a bit part role in our midfield. His crab like side-to-side movements and negative passing certainly got the crowd agitated and his sarcastic clapping of the East Stand last season certainly didn't do him any favours.

I hope the Barton thing is smoke and mirrors. Him and Reo Coker aren't the sort of players we should be looking at.
