'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Billionaires and Baines

Despite Mike Ashley putting the smack down on Dave Whelan, it`s ironic that the first player we`ve been linked with since the emergence of the new regime is a Wigan one. Leighton Baines has been earmarked as our new left back by Big Sam, with the combination of ambition for an England career and the departure of Paul Jewell mentioned as why we are likely to get our man. Expect to see this one come to fruition over the summer, following Tottenham`s new left back in Bale and our new influx of brass. Besides - Wigan are just a rugby club.

Wigan Athletic have NEVER been a rugby club, in fact most Wiganners hate rugby, before you mention our crowds the towns population is only 90,000. Baines is staying put, why should he leave an over achieving club for an under achieving one (in your minds) Good luck with Sam Ayelhaveapie you'll need it

Errr guys, we'll probably be playing Kid Bales on the left wing, so we'll be having Baines too, for left back. Sorry!

Disposing of Shepherd means we might actually have someone with a bit of nous to manage our finances. With his billions and the ground going up to 60k Spurs will be lagging. Especially when Berbatov leaves you in the lurch...

Berbs isn't goin anywhere. Anyone who's read an interview with the man knows that. Unless this new bloke aquires enough shares to warrant making a personal investment into the transfer kitty - I think a wisely placed bet on toon relegation would be well rewarded...

Chelsea / Man Utd? Honours every season? Berbatov missed out on the chance of a CL medal at Leverkusen. I doubt he'll make the same mistake again when the big boys come sniffing. Spurs won't resist Abramovich if his brass comes knocking, whilst Berbatov has all the makings of a Cantona figure at the Mancs.

this isnt about berbatov. its about you being so happy that we decided against signing an average left back who almost got relgated so you can get him

The same Sunderland signing league luminaries such as Gavin McCann and Andy Todd? Oh aye - quaking at Owen and Martins facing Todd and Nosworthy.

I'd have fancied Baines to come to us over Spurs for a start - Damien Duff ring any bells? I still reckon you'll be in for him once Giggs has a word in Bale's shell.

Yeah we missed out on Duff. He's bein scoring goals left, right, and center! Plus he's never injured, wouldnt accept a penny over 5k a week, and hasnt got dissilusioned at all by not being in europe next season and phaving to prepare for another relegation battle. Apparently he even takes time out to talk to Steve Carr! Signing of the season. Although that Sibierski is almost unplayable...
