A disappointed press were this morning reporting that England`s Michael Owen has finally spoken to Big Sam, albeit only over the phone. Owen was said to have been receptive and impressed by our new gaffer`s plans but, as seems the case with him, he hasn`t exactly come out leaping through hoops and proclaiming undying loyalty to us black and whites. I`m sure this leaves a few hacks kicking their heels until he scores for England at some stage in the next three weeks, when the 'Owen proves his fitness to Fergie/Wenger/Jose/Rafa` rumours will kick in again. In the mean time I guess it leaves Sam still scribbling down his prospective targets. Whether one of those is a replacement for Oba or Owen remains to be seen.
