Given our habit of merely picking patsy`s and cone shifters in our backroom staff - Souness`s squad of Saunders, Tunks and Boersma narrowly pips Terry McDermott in terms of ineffectiveness - it`s a refreshing sight to see Sam putting some thought into getting a set of professionals together. Neil McDonald is getting heavily linked by the press as leaving Carlisle to join as Sam`s assistant, whilst permission has been granted for Sam to speak to Mark Taylor, head of sports science at Wanderers, whilst his performance director, Mike Forde, is supposed to be close to joining too. Given Sammy Lee`s new move of bringing in his old Liverpool chums it`s no surprise that a few of them will be jumping ship.

I rate Neil McDonald VERY highly, think he'll go on to be a fine manager (not saying he isn't already!) so could see why he'd jump at Newcastle but would hope that he stuck it out where he is and managed outright for a while longer before reverting back to a number two, not that I feel he needs to anymore.
