'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Weekend Tittle Tattle

Interestingly enough it`s a combo of the young and the old this weekend making the papers as the summer transfer bus wheels up to Fleet Street. Starting with age before beauty, Sol Campbell is linked with us for the second season running as an old head to bring on the likes of Taylor. Given his sterling season he`s come back into the reckoning a year after Glenn Roeder decided he was too old for us. Get that one? Me neither. Like with Woodgate I suspect Glenn has been left to rue a missed chance to put together a formidable defence.

Skipping down a generation and it`s a couple of youngsters linked. Nathan Porritt, a Boro youth team player, is one surprise inclusion whilst the other is Derby`s Giles Barnes, no stranger to being connected with us. Porritt`s agent, Peter Harrison, has confirmed that his client will not be signing professional terms with the Beasts. Barnes meanwhile has been told he`s got a great future with Derby. However with the Rams bottling automatic promotion and looking out of shape for the play offs (especially given Barnes is injured) expect the Spurs and Newcastle shaped vultures to be hovering.

Another missed chance last summer to put things right and our lack of foresight costs us again. Well done the management.

barnes looks seriously handy, much like his name sake John. Lets hope we get him before he's 36.

Good prospects. Don't fancy Porritt coming with his agent though.
